Paresh Rawal’s ‘The TAJ Story’ Draws Criticism Ahead of Release
Even before its release, Paresh Rawal's Film The TAJ Story has drawn critics’ attention for its intriguing yet controversial content.
Slated for release on 31st October 2025, it coincides with the birth anniversary of Shri Vallabhbhai Patel, also celebrated as National Unity Day.
However, the movie plot, which centres around the mysteries of the Taj Mahal, has come under scrutiny.
Directed by Tushar Amrish Goel, the courtroom drama is produced by CA Suresh Jha. Let’s further know about why it has come under fire.
The TAJ Story: What’s Causing the Controversy
The ongoing criticism of The TAJ Story about its history is not new. In May 2022, a petition seeking facts on publishing the real history of the wonder monument and opening its sealed doors was rejected by the Allahabad High Court.
The bench presided by justices Devendra Kumar Upadhaya and Subhash Vidyarthi had quashed it and forwarded this as a matter of debate among historians and academicians.
Delving more into this issue, Taj Mahal, one of the famous historical edifices, was constructed under the reign of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan between 1632 and 1648 in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal.
Termed as ' The Jewel of Muslim art in India' by UNESCO, it is one of the admired masterpieces in the world.
Apart from being a historical masterpiece, this monument is a burial tomb for the king and queen. According to UNESCO, it rests on a square platform. The steps at the centre of the southern side lead to the top.
Based on the ASI source, the 22 rooms in its basement are a long, arched corridor with fixed doors. It was designed to utilise the extra space.
According to a retired ASI official, the prohibited space of this UNESCO World Heritage Site is not for tourist viewing.
It is locked to avoid unwanted movements. He further added that in its basement, there is no such secret history to discover. For security reasons, the area is not open to the public.
There have been claims about the idols of Hindu deities in the basement. However, ASI officials, historians, and even courts have repeatedly rejected these. The trailer of TAJ Story itself drops such hints.
