Rajpal Yadav Bail Hearing: HC to Decide in ₹9 Crore Debt Case

Rajpal Yadav, the famous comedian-actor of Indian cinema, who has long made us laugh with his timeless humour, is going through a rough phase in his personal life.

In early 2026, he faced legal trouble and surrendered to Tihar Jail following a court order.

This whole issue is connected to debt and a cheque-bounce case worth nearly ₹9 crore.

Rajpal Yadav: How the Trouble Started For Ata Pata Laapata Actor

The problem began about 16 years ago. In 2010, Rajpal Yadav decided to try his hand at directing with the movie Ata Pata Laapata

To make this film, he borrowed ₹5 crore from a businessman in Delhi. Sadly, the movie performed badly at the box office, and he was unable to repay the loan.

When Yadav was asked to repay the lender, he submitted multiple cheques. But because there was not enough cash in the account, cheques bounced, which is considered unlawful under Indian law.

Over the years, interest and penalties increased the total debt to around ₹9 crore, and the case went to court.

Court Order and Jail

The Delhi High Court repeatedly asked Rajpal to pay the money in instalments, but he failed to fulfil his promises.

The court criticised him for breaking his word and finally ordered him to go to jail. Rajpal surrendered to the authorities and is now serving his sentence.

Before surrendering, Rajpal became emotional in interviews, saying he truly wanted to repay the money but had no funds left.

He said he respected the law but had no choice but to go to jail because he could not pay.

Support From Bollywood and Friends

Rajpal Yadav’s pitiful condition finally caught the notice of Bollywood stars and some friends, who came forward to help him in this difficult time.

Some prominent names are Sonu Sood and Salman Khan. Besides these acclaimed actors, music producer Rao Inderjeet Singh also came forward to help Yadav remove his debt by donating Rs 1.11 crore.

Help from colleagues in the film fraternity offered Yadav hope of overcoming this challenging phase and returning to the screen to make audiences laugh once again.

Will Rajpal Yadav Come Out Of This Financial Crisis?

According to a legal expert, if Rajpal’s friends and well-wishers in Bollywood help him pay off his debt, his jail terms are expected to be reduced, or he may even get bail.

As of now, his fans are eagerly waiting for their favourite comedian to come out of his financial crisis and return to the screen.
