India’s Indigenous Fighter Tejas MK-1A Soars, Rivals Take Note

Tejas MK-1A is all set to add a new chapter in India's air power. This native fighter jet will be launched on 17th October 2025, in Nashik, from the HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) plant.
It will signal a new era in India's aviation programme and a proud moment for India's pursuit of self-reliance in defence.
As per the official invitation of HAL, the flight will flag off in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The two Tejas MK-1A fighter jets will also be handed over to the IAF (Indian Air Force), marking a significant beginning of the new generation Indian aircraft.
Tejas MK-1A: A Proud Moment for HAL and India’s Self-Reliance
The debut flight of Tejas MK-1A is a breakthrough not just for HAL but also evidence of India's self-sufficiency in defence technology, a long-cherished dream of many scientists and policymakers.
Seeing it turn into a reality is indeed a proud moment. What India once imported, it can now build on its own.
This new avian milestone has been a part of the Rs 48,000 crore deal, signed in 2021 for 83 aircraft, including 73 fighters and 10 trainers.
The shortage of GE engines caused early delays, but now that the technical problems have been resolved, new supplies are expected by mid-2025.
HAL's production of the fast-track assembly line had already taken place in August 2025, with 11 single-seat fighters and nine trainer jets.
Under a tight delivery schedule, 12 aircraft will roll out by December 2025, with new arrivals by March 2026.
Featuring Robust Technologies
Among the robust technologies featured in Tejas MK-1A are an AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar.
Thanks to its advanced system, it can track multiple targets simultaneously and is excellent in modern air combat.
Its sensors help pilots detect approaching threats much faster than before.
Other advanced features include a new electronic warfare suite with jammers and passive sensors to help evade and counter enemy systems.
Additional key features include an advanced glass cockpit with a multi-function display system, HOTAS (Hands-On Throttle and Stick) setup, and a helmet-mounted sight.
All these features would prove helpful for pilots with instant control during high-pressure missions.
Tejas MK-1A is also capable of maritime strikes, ground attacks, and surveillance.
It also carries Indian and imported warfare artillery, such as Astra BVR missiles and precision-guided munitions.
This fighter jet will become more powerful when equipped with BrahMos missiles in the future.
A Historic Watch
October 17 2025, is the date that will mark a milestone for India’s defence journey. The new avian fighter jet is all set to roar in the sky with fire and pride, giving jitters to China and Pakistan on the same day.
