What Happened in the Goa Nightclub Fire

Brothers, Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, co-owned the North Goa nightclub Birch by Romeo Lane.

Around 11:45 PM, a fire broke out from the indoor electrical firecrackers, igniting palm leaf decorations.

The blaze spread rapidly throughout the illegally constructed venue. While the authorities managed to arrest six people, the club's co-owners fled to Thailand after the incident.

This raised suspicion, which forced authorities to take strict action against them through international arrest warrants.

Now, the Goa government has requested India’s external affairs to suspend their passports. Now, an Interpol Blue Notice is also issued to nab the accused brothers.

Goa Fire Case Police Statement ‘’Brothers Fled as Victims Fought for Survival’’

The police were surprised to know that the Luthra brothers had already booked flights on MakeMyTrip to flee Thailand at 1:17 AM on December 7.

When they were planning to escape, the firefighters struggled to extinguish the flames to save people's lives inside the blazing club.

According to an official, rescue teams worked hard to save the people trapped in the club, but it did not bother the brothers, who only planned to leave the country as soon as possible.

Lawyers Claim Brothers Were on a Business Trip, Not Attempting Escape

On Wednesday, the Delhi court denied protecting the accused from arrest. According to their lawyers, the brothers did not intend to escape; they were on a business trip.

They further tried to shield them by saying they only held licenses and were not the actual owners.

The lawyers also argued that, since the staff were operating regularly, it was wrong to blame them.

MEA Suspends Luthra Brothers' Passports Under Section 10A

The MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) suspended the passports under Section 10A of the Passports Act 1967

Hence, a person is not allowed to travel with them. In the case of the Luthra brothers, who already fled to Phuket, Thailand, with invalid passports, the situation compels them to travel further to another global location.

Passport suspension happens in criminal cases. Its reactivation must fulfil the legal conditions. After that, the passport gets cancelled.
