Will Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli Return In the 2027 ODI World Cup?
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are two of the bigger names in Indian cricket. They have contributed to playing for the team and bringing victory in the matches till now.
Both the sports stars made their last appearance during the Champions Trophy final match on 9th March 2025 against New Zealand.
Now their comeback for the Australia series is uncertain. To remind you, they have earlier announced their retirement from T20Is and Test matches.
Hence, they will get an international farewell for their exit from ODI. As their career reaches the twilight, their comeback for the 2027 World Cup is uncertain.
Ravi Shastri, a veteran player and cricket commentator, has voiced his honest take on their presence at the ICC event.
Ravi Shastri on Rohit & Virat’s Return for ODI 2027
According to Ravi Shastri, the return of Rohit and Virat to the ODI 2027 will largely depend on their fitness and form.
He also added that this series is essential to test their performance. The cricket stars will then decide for themselves how they feel. Beyond that, it's entirely their decision whether to continue or not.
Their Participation Will Be a Dream Farewell
Rohit Sharma,38, has been playing since 2007, while Virat Kohli, 37, has been playing since 2008. With their participation in the coming World Cup, they will turn 40 and 39. And if India wins, it will surely be a dream farewell.
Referring to both the cricket players as 'Hitman' and 'King', Shubman Gill has said that both will be a part of the Indian cricket team for the next World Cup.
Unlike Kohli, credited with being part of the Indian team victory and holding the 2011 World Cup trophy, Rohit has yet to experience a win in the ODI World Cup.
Shastri's words are a blunt reminder that Virat and Rohit cannot take their places for good, as they need to prove their fitness to play for the 2027 World Cup.
Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, has also not confirmed the placement of these two cricket players for the next World Cup in 2027.
His statement came during the conference after the post-cricket match, when India defeated West Indies in the test series by 2-0.
It was the first test series under Shubman Gill's captaincy, acquired from Rohit earlier this year.
He also told reporters to stay in present, as the 2027 World Cup is 2.5 years away. Calling Kohli and Rohit quality players, he hoped they would have a successful tour in Australia.
