BMW X3 Launch Date, Features, Specifications and Price in India

One of the renowned automobile companies, BMW, has announced the launch date of its brand-new car on April 19, 2018. In the Bavarian automaker’s portfolio, the BMW X3 is considered one of the most popular SUVs. First launched in 2003, the X3 has sold over 1.5 million units worldwide in the last 14 years across two generations.

BMW X3 Popularity in India

The BMW X3 has been a crowd-pleaser in India, especially among customers willing to spend around ₹50 lakh on a luxury SUV instead of opting for the standard BMW 3 Series. The new X3 comes with a transformative design and several upgrades to make it look smarter and more aggressive.

BMW X3 Exterior Design Changes

For starters, the headlamps and kidney grille are now separated, unlike the design seen in the BMW X5 or the new 5 Series. The grille has been made larger compared to the previous generation. A new bold bumper with larger air intakes and LED hexagonal fog lamps adds to the SUV’s aggressive appeal.

The new X3 also features:

  • Full LED headlamps
  • LED fog lamps
  • Full LED 3D tail lamps

Wheels and Dimensions

The BMW X3 comes with a standard 18-inch wheel size, while the top-spec variant offers massive 21-inch alloy wheels, enhancing its road presence.

BMW X3 Interior and Cabin Features

Inside, the cabin follows BMW’s latest design language, similar to other models in the lineup. The infotainment screen is positioned on top of the dashboard rather than being embedded inside it.

Key interior highlights include:

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
  • Optional gesture control for infotainment
  • Premium materials and improved comfort

Space, Comfort and Boot Capacity

The new BMW X3 offers more interior space due to a 2.2-inch longer wheelbase. This results in better legroom for both front and rear passengers along with a large boot space, making it more practical for long journeys.

Advanced Comfort and Technology Features

BMW has equipped the new X3 with:

  • Ambient interior lighting options
  • A full-color head-up display (instead of monochrome)
  • Optional acoustic glass for a quieter and more comfortable cabin

BMW X3 Engine and Performance

Initially, the BMW X3 is expected to be available only in diesel variants.

Engine options include:

  • xDrive20d – 188 bhp
  • xDrive30d – 262 bhp

Both engines are paired with BMW’s 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, specially tuned for this SUV.

BMW X3 Rivals in India

In the Indian market, the BMW X3 will compete with:

  • Mercedes-Benz GLC
  • Audi Q5 (upcoming)
  • Volvo XC60
  • Land Rover Discovery Sport
  • Range Rover Evoque

BMW X3 India Launch Date and Expected Price

The BMW X3 is expected to launch in India by mid-2018, with an estimated price range of ₹50–60 lakh, offering a perfect blend of luxury, performance, and comfort.
