When asked about her motivation for exploring Western cinema, Priyanka responded, “I wanted to see what else was out there.”
Citing examples such as Mindy Kaling and Aishwarya Rai, she finds that very few Indian actors appear on Hollywood's big screen. This gave her the idea of having that representation.
She further said ‘’It made me think of myself as that girl who was in the 9th grade in America, where nobody looks like me… ‘’I didn’t think about it (much) at the time, but as someone starting to seek work in Hollywood, I thought, "Where do I stand?" How do I begin?… It came from the need to want and see what the possibilities were there.”
Why Did Priyanka Chopra Leave Bollywood?
Now comes the key question: why has Priyanka distanced herself from Bollywood?
During her chat with the Amanda Hirsch podcast, Priyanka mentioned that it was not an easy journey in Bollywood. There were battles to handle. She is someone who cannot rely on staying in the s**t because it makes you prone to that smell. As for her, she believes in oscillating.
Clearing her stance on switching from Bollywood, she says it's due to industry politics and fewer opportunities to experiment with the craft of acting. This led her to move West and secure her first major break as a lead in Quantico.
Further, she said that when life gets difficult, we humans learn to pick ourselves up, shrug off the dust, take time to feel the emotions and the pain, and then move on.
Priyanka admits this is not new to her, as she has pivoted multiple times in her illustrious cinematic career.
She also stated that she had no clear path to try her luck in Western cinema. With no prior experience, Priyanka gave it a shot, keeping only one thing in mind: that she is a hard worker and familiar with her job. According to her, she will stand toe-to-toe with any filmmaker and co-actor on set.
