Navratri Day 3: Maa Chandraghanta -The Warrior Goddess of Peace

On the third day of Navratri, devotees honour Maa Chandraghanta, the warrior yet compassionate form of Goddess Durga. She symbolises courage, serenity, and protection, blessing her worshippers with inner strength and peace. Her name comes from the crescent moon (Chandra) adorning her forehead, shaped like a bell (Ghanta).
Maa Chandraghanta: The Divine Story
Maa Chandraghanta appears as a three-eyed, ten-armed goddess with a golden complexion, mounting a lion. Eight of her hands carry weapons, the other two hands are in the form of Abhaya (protection) and Varada (blessing) mudras. She represents justice, fearlessness, and supreme bliss, guarding devotees from the negative forces and leading them towards spiritual enlightenment.
As per the Hindu scriptures, when Lord Shiva came before King Himavan's palace in a frightful form so as to marry Goddess Parvati, she changed her form into the glowing and heavenly Maa Chandraghanta so as to pacify him. As for her majesty, Shiva assumed a benevolent form, and the celestial union took place. Due to this, she came to be revered as the goddess transforming fright into calmness and protecting her devotees from the negative forces while instilling them with peace as well as courage.
What Does Maa Chandraghanta Represent and How She Blesses Devotees
Mata Chandraghanta radiates the calm balance between power and peace. Armed with her ten arms, she personifies fearlessness and the capability to defeat evil, yet her radiant golden form and crescent moon adorning her forehead radiate calmness, elegance, and mercy.
Worshipping her is said to remove fear, doubts, and negativity and instil inner confidence and clarity. She blesses her worshippers with discipline and fearlessness and the ability to withstand all the challenges that life throws at us. The ringing of her holy bell removes negative spirits and fills the air with positivity.
Her divine energy offers peace of mind, harmoniously reciprocal relationships, and spiritual development. In meditation, her devotees not only get protection from negative forces but also experience a deep state of completion, abundance, and liberation from accumulated past karma.
