India's First Win on the UK Tour: Bumrah, Axar Patel Shines

India's first win on the UK Tour:  Jasprit Bumrah’s return gave India their first win on the UK tour.

In his first 50-over match since the 2023 ODI World Cup final, the fast bowler boosted team morale as India won the first ODI in Birmingham by six wickets.

Jasprit Bumrah led a strong fast-bowling attack that quickly broke through England’s batting lineup.

England recovered to score 258 runs, but it wasn’t enough to stop the energised Indian team, which included Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul.

India's First Win on the UK Tour: Gill’s Tactical Masterclass and Brar’s Double Blow Put India Back on Track

Coach Gautam Gambhir was relieved after India’s earlier 0-6 T20I losses to Ireland and England. Bumrah set the tone with a strong opening spell after India chose to bowl first in Birmingham.

Ben Duckett and newcomer Jacob Bethell both struggled with Bumrah’s swing, missing the ball several times in the first 10 overs.

He didn't get a wicket in the first 10 overs, but his pace made England's openers uncomfortable.

The pressure paid off after the powerplay, when Shubman Gill brought on fast bowler Gurnoor Brar in the 13th over.

Bethell and Duckett had scored 26 of England’s first 51 runs off Bumrah’s opening spell.

India Beat England in 1st ODI: How India Sealed Victory Against England

India take a 1-0 lead after first win on UK Tour: Shubman Gill played a classy innings of 80, and Axar Patel remained unbeaten with a half-century and took four wickets.

Thanks to their performances, India defeated England by six wickets in the first ODI at Edgbaston. India easily chased 259 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

With the field set, Washington Sundar caught one at deep mid-wicket. Two balls later, Duckett was out when Jasprit Bumrah took a great catch near the third-man boundary.

Recalling Bumrah right after the breakthrough was a masterstroke by Shubman as captain that paid off.

England captain Harry Brook, who had played well in the T20Is, couldn’t handle Bumrah’s angles and was caught in the slips, giving India three quick wickets.

Krishna then took two wickets in the 17th over, dismissing Jos Buttler and Sam Curran, which sealed England’s fate.

England vs India Match Report: Root-Dawson Stand Fails as Axar Triggers England Collapse

India's first win on the UK Tour: After being 51 for no loss in 10 overs, England had collapsed to 93 for 5 by the 20th over.

Just when it looked like India would finish England off quickly, veteran Joe Root joined spinner Liam Dawson for a strong seventh-wicket partnership.

They added 121 runs, setting a new record for England’s seventh wicket against India.

The partnership helped England steady their innings and fight back in the final overs. India seemed frustrated and unsure how to break the stand, but they stayed patient and alert.

Dawson tried to hit Axar Patel off the last ball of the over, but mistimed his shot and was caught at deep backward square leg. Rohit Sharma, who has played 285 ODIs, made no mistake with the catch.

Dawson’s wicket started another collapse for England. As they tried to score quickly, they were bowled out for 258 in the 48th over.

This was an important performance for Axar, especially after he struggled in the last T20I of the series.

England vs India Highlights: Tough Moments

India's first win on the UK Tour: England dismissed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli on a pitch with uneven bounce.

Many fans who came hoping to watch these two great players, maybe for the last time at this ground, went home disappointed.

Many fans who came to see these two stars, possibly for the last time at this ground, left disappointed.

Sam Curran dismissed Rohit in the eighth over after the batter struggled with bounce.  After defending several deliveries, he tried to attack England’s slowest pacer but hit it straight to Harry Brook at mid-off.

England captain Brook saw a chance and brought back his top bowler, Jofra Archer, in the next over, just as Shubman had done earlier with Bumrah.

Jofra Archer first surprised Virat Kohli with a short ball, then bowled a fuller delivery that struck him on the pads, dismissing him after just six balls.

With the swing fading but some bounce still in the pitch, Shubman and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer built a 101-run partnership. England were desperate for a wicket, but it didn’t come.

Both batters ran hard between the wickets, and Shreyas Iyer kept rotating the strike to keep the scoreboard moving.

Shubman’s relentless push finally took its toll. In the 26th over, he had to leave the field, retiring hurt with cramps and giving England a rare chance.

After Shubman left, India had a brief collapse as Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul lost their wickets soon after.

Axar Patel's Match-Winning Performance: Powered India to Victory With His Calm Composure

India's first win on the UK Tour: Things looked uncertain for India after losing two senior players, but Axar Patel stayed calm and guided the team to a solid win in the first ODI.

Following a tough T20I series, Axar bounced back with an unbeaten 57 off 52 balls.

He handled the early pressure and then finished with a burst of boundaries, taking India past the target in the 46th over.

India came to Birmingham after a winless tour and low morale, but left with more than just two points.
