Ravindra Jadeja Asks BCCI Procedure, His Question Puts Chief Selector Role in Focus
Ajit Agarkar has stepped down as head of the Indian cricket team's selection panel after more than three successful years in the role. Since then, there has been considerable discussion regarding who will succeed him. When the BCCI advertised the post, it proposed an unexpected name: the prominent all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
BCCI Chief Selector Vacancy: When the BCCI announced the vacancy of its chief selector on its official X account, Ravindra Jadeja joked and asked how he could apply. Jadeja commented on the BCCI's post and asked how to apply.
Ravindra Jadeja Asks BCCI Procedure
Jadeja's joke added a touch of humour to the debate over Agarkar's replacement. The BCCI's rules state that active players cannot assume administrative or selection committee positions because of conflicts of interest.
When Ajit Agarkar resigned and the board began to search for a new chairman of the selectors, Jadeja merely asked, "What is the procedure?"

Jadeja's brief reply followed shortly after the BCCI had announced that Agarkar was resigning as chairman of the men's selection committee. As he does not often write on X, his comment was particularly noticeable. The last time he had posted on the platform was on 19th February, when he replied to former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin regarding a post on Nepal cricket.
BCCI Chief Selector Post: Criteria
Can Ravindra Jadeja Become Chief Selector: To become chief selector, a person must have retired from all forms of cricket for at least five years and have substantial international experience. Since Jadeja took part in the 2024 World Cup and is still playing in one-day and Test cricket, as well as being with the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, he is not eligible.
BCCI Chief Selector Vacancy after Ajit Agarkar Exit
During his time as chief selector, Agarkar selected the teams that won the T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026, secured the Champions Trophy in 2025, and reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
After his term concluded, the BCCI issued a special message. In its official statement, the BCCI lauded Agarkar's tenure as chief selector, mentioning three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup victories, two gold medals at the Asian Games, and reaching the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
The board thanked him for his dedication and wished him well. Gautam Gambhir also sent his best wishes, stating that it had been a privilege to work with Agarkar. On X, Gambhir said that the three ICC trophies demonstrated Agarkar's commitment to putting the team first and wished him all the best.
