Kriti Sanon Delhi High Court: Actor Kriti Sanon has moved the Delhi High Court for protection of her personality rights. On Friday, the Court said it will consider the legal provisions on such claims as more cases of this nature arise.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav asked Sanon's counsel, Pravin Anand, to gather court decisions and research personality rights. That would help show what protection is available and whether the High Court's IP Division can hear such matters.

Kriti Sanon Personality Rights Case: The Court has asked Kriti to submit research papers, court decisions, and her own views on personality rights. It will then make a decision. Misuse of Artificial Intelligence in Breaching the Privacy of Celebrities
The advent of platforms and AI is now complicating personality rights through unauthorised digital copies, impersonation, deepfakes, and the use of a public figure's identity to market products and services.
Personality rights will generally protect elements of a person's identity from being used without their consent. Disputes in this area can arise in relation to privacy, publicity rights, intellectual property and the use of a person's identity for commercial purposes.
The courts will of course be balancing those rights against other interests such as freedom of expression, news reporting, artistic expression and so on. The documents are intended to help answer where personality rights protection should stop and which court should deal with the matter.
Brief Overview of Personality Rights | Understanding the Basis Concept
Personality rights protect a person's identity (privacy, property, etc.). They are especially relevant in the celebrity world, where companies often use a celebrity's name, photograph, or voice in an advert to boost sales. To protect themselves, many celebrities will register their name.
A celebrity's identity can include their real name, nickname, stage name, photograph, likeness, image, and even their actual property (e.g., a famous race car). In India, Article 21 of the Constitution protects personality rights primarily through the right to privacy and the right to publicity.
