Saiyaara Bags Popular Choice Award at YIFF 2025

Saiyaara, which became the highest-grossing romantic flick, has once again grabbed attention, this time for winning the Popular Choice Award at the Yellowstone International Film Festival 2025, clinching its place as a new-age blockbuster movie. 

Released on July 18, the film garnered outstanding Rs 570 crore worldwide. It is appreciated for its music, fresh talent, and impressive direction by Mohit Suri. 

Along with him, Akshaye Widhani, producer and CEO of Yash Raj Films, has received the award at the ceremony in Mumbai. 

Suri, who went emotional, said, “This is really special. I’ve been around for 20 years, and this is my first award.” 

Before Saiyaara, he has also directed Aashiqui 2 and Kalyug. But the success of Saiyaara, his first collaboration with YRF, has really touched him deeply.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge Sparked Mohit’s Love For Indian Cinema

Recalling his early love for Indian cinema, he makes a popular mention of Yash Chopra's Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The movie starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles. 

This blockbuster movie of the 90s decade created a whopping record of Rs 89 crore at the box office. It is still the most-watched Indian romantic film even today. 

According to Mohit, watching it for the first time as a child in the theatre sparked an idea of fulfilling his dream of becoming a filmmaker.

Recalling the moment when he discussed the script of Saiyaara with Aditya Chopra (YRF chairman) and Widhani, they loved and approved of its making.

After the release, the movie even lived up to the expectations in terms of storyline and music. 

Saiyaara's title track became a milestone in the history of music. It became the first Hindi song to be listed in the Billboard Top 10 worldwide.
