3 Major Reasons for Stampede Occurrences at Religious Sites

In reference to the recent Ashokdham temple stampede and other stampede incidents, this happens for multiple reasons. These include:

  • Many religious gatherings draw millions of people and often fill venues to capacity.
  • Ancient buildings were not designed to hold large groups of people. The hallways are narrow, there are only a few exits, and managing groups in these tight spaces can be difficult.
  • Issues such as poor crowd management, weak security, and a lack of emergency plans make matters worse.
