The bypoll in Puducherry is viewed as a popularity test for the AINRC-led mandatory coalition government. The Thattanchavady constituency recorded around 80.81 per cent voter turnout, compared with 87.20 per cent in the April 2026 Assembly elections.

The by-election is also seen as a test for the chief minister N. Rangasamy-led NDA government, which resigned from the Thattanchavady seat, creating the need for the electoral exercise.
