Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently condemned the recent attack on Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, on Monday (6th October, 2025) by a senior lawyer on Supreme Court premises.

In his social media post on X, he called it a shameful act that is not at all tolerable in our society. It has angered every Indian.

While speaking to the Chief Justice about it, the PM appreciated him for keeping calm in such an awkward situation. Let’s know further what happened in court.

CJI BR Gavai Insulted In Supreme Court: Know What Happened

In a humiliating incident during the proceedings in the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, was insulted by a senior lawyer, Rakesh Kishore, who hurled a shoe at him.

Not unfazed by such a reaction, CJI also told the courtroom counsels not to get distracted by it.

He remained composed throughout the proceedings in the court. But it received backlash from Indian citizens, and was also condemned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The incident happened around 11:35 AM when a 71-year-old lawyer removed his shoes and threw at CJI by saying ‘’Sanatan Ka Apman Nahi Sahenge’’.

What Was The Matter?

The matter revolves around the dismissal of a plea filed by Rakesh Dalal for reconstruction of Lord Vishnu’s dilapidated idol at Javeri Temple in Madhya Pradesh.

Despite his repeated requests, his plea was ignored. He also felt mocked when told to ask the deity himself for the solution and practice meditation.

According to the petitioner council, the god’s idol head is in a dilapidated condition and requires renovation.

However, SC passed on this matter to the Archaeology Survey of India’s jurisdiction. According to him, they have to decide whether to permit it or not.

CJI further advised the senior advocate to worship the biggest Shiva linga in Khajuraho, if not against Shaivism.

Finding no effect of his pleas, the lawyer fumed and, in a fit of rage, he hurled the shoe at Gavai.

Delhi Police questioned him for three hours inside the Supreme Court and released him without any formal complaint.

Followed by immediate suspension from the Bar Council of India, the lawyer is no longer permitted to further court proceedings.
