Born in Ayodhya on February 15, 1935, Bashir Badr received his B.A., M.A., and PhD degrees from Aligarh Muslim University.

He started teaching there and later served as the head of the Urdu Department at Meerut College for nearly 17 years.

Many of his works were also translated into English and French, reaching readers around the world.

Padma Shri Bashir Badr

Urdu poet Bashir Badr death: Dr Bashir Badr received many honours, including the Padma Shri. He was recognised four times by the Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy and once by the Bihar Urdu Academy.

Internationally, he won the Meer Academy Award and was named “Poet of the Year 1980” in New York.

His collection Aas, which has 69 Ghazals, is seen as a highlight of modern Urdu poetry.

Another important work, Kulliyate Bashir Badr, was published in Pakistan and is admired throughout South Asia.
