Viksit Bharat 2047: Prime Minister Narendra Modi told his council of ministers on Thursday that making India a developed nation by 2047 is a government commitment, not just a slogan.

He urged the administration to focus on reforms and getting results. The meeting, which is rare, also discussed how to handle energy disruptions caused by the war in West Asia, according to people familiar with the matter.

The cabinet meeting held by PM Modi lasted more than four hours and included cabinet ministers, ministers of state with independent charge, and other ministers of state.

They reviewed how different policies and programs are being carried out ahead of the second anniversary of Modi’s third term.

Modi looked at progress in nine key areas, such as the economy, agriculture, labour, and energy, as India faces challenges from the war in West Asia.

Viksit Bharat 2047: He emphasized the need to look into alternative fuels like biogas and other renewable energy sources, since the deadlock in the Strait of Hormuz has disrupted the supply of oil, gas, and other essentials, according to the people mentioned earlier. This was the first meeting of its kind in almost a year.

Modi Government Reforms: PM Calls for Speedier Work, Transparency, and Less Bureaucracy

The Prime Minister again called for cutting red tape and making government work more transparent.

He told the council of ministers to keep things moving and make sure work is finished quickly, according to the people mentioned above.

“The PM said that files should not sit on desks for too long and that processes should be made simpler.

He also said the government’s achievements over the past 12 years should be shared widely and that the feedback system should be improved,” said one person with knowledge of the meeting.

The meeting happened while there was speculation about a possible cabinet reshuffle and changes to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s organization.

Presentations covered nine key sectors, including power, agriculture, labour, foreign affairs, infrastructure, trade and commerce, and corporate affairs.

Viksit Bharat 2047: During the meeting, the ministers congratulated the Prime Minister on his successful visit to five countries, according to the people mentioned earlier.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar gave a separate presentation about the Prime Minister’s tour, according to another person familiar with the details.

India Government Schemes: PM Urges Ministers to Accelerate Work

The Prime Minister reportedly asked the ministers to speed up central schemes that are behind schedule in some states and to closely monitor their progress.

“He said it is time to look at the targets set for new goals, and the government cannot rest on its past achievements.”

NITI Aayog presentation: Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan gave a presentation on the government's reform efforts and other people-focused measures. Niti Aayog member Rajiv Gauba also gave a presentation.

Modi told the ministers several times that their main goal should be to make people’s lives easier and to ensure “ease of living.” He also said the government should avoid interfering in people’s lives.

Modi also added that now is the time to look forward instead of focusing on the past.

The meeting took place as the Opposition is challenging the government on issues like the economy, rising unemployment, the agrarian crisis, and higher prices for essentials and fuel.

West Asia Crisis: PM Urges People to Use Fuel Judiciously, Buy Less Gold

Tensions from the conflict in West Asia are blamed for the crisis. Earlier this month, the Prime Minister asked people to spend more carefully by using less fuel and cooking gas, buying less gold, and cutting back on non-essential overseas travel.

In response, government departments have started work-from-home days and reduced the size of official convoys.

Modi, UAE President Ink Strategic Deals, Abu Dhabi Commits $5B

In the UAE, India signed several agreements on strategic petroleum reserves, long-term LPG supply, defence, and shipping.

Abu Dhabi also agreed to invest USD 5 billion.

Modi’s meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan took place while tensions in West Asia continued.

Modi’s Europe Tour: India Signs Agreements, Boosts Partnerships Across the Continent

In Europe, India built stronger strategic ties with several countries. In the Netherlands, both sides signed 17 agreements and upgraded their relationship to a strategic partnership. They also discussed tensions in West Asia and global energy stability.

Sweden and Norway also strengthened their ties with India. They announced plans to work together on clean energy, innovation, defence, digital technologies, and critical minerals, along with broader cooperation at the India-Nordic Summit.
