Ram Temple 2nd Anniversary : Slaughterhouses in Gujarat to remain closed on Jan 22

As January 22 marks the inauguration of the Ayodhya Ram temple, slaughterhouses in Gujarat will remain shut today.

On Wednesday, the state government stated that the occasion is special to mark the completion of two years since the ‘Pran Pratishta’ of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

The Urban Development and Urban Housing Department has issued a statewide order to municipal commissioners, requiring all abattoirs to comply with the closure order on Thursday.

In the letter, the department has instructed officials to ensure the closure of slaughterhouses under their jurisdiction following the second anniversary celebrations of the Ram Temple inauguration.

The historic event of Ram Mandir’s inauguration and sanctification (Pran Pratishta) ceremony took place on January 22, 2024. Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the rituals for the installation of Ram Lalla in the grand temple’s sanctum sanctorum.

How Old Is Ram Mandir

January 22, 2024, is a historic date, as it marks the establishment of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya after a prolonged period.

Today, this temple is witnessing a large crowd of devotees eager to see Ram Lalla.

Though it has completed two years, its history stretches back centuries. The muslim community claimed the establishment of Babri Masjid in 1528, but according to Hindus, the location marks the birthplace of Lord Ram, and is sacred for centuries. This led to a prolonged religious dispute.

In 1992, when the mosque was demolished, it sparked legal battles that took decades to settle.

Finally, in 2019, the Supreme Court approved the construction of the Ram Temple, and it was completed in 2024. According to the historical text, the temple stood on this site before the Mughal era.

More Constructions To Be Built In The Coming Years

Even though the main shrine opened two years ago, more construction is likely to take place in the entire temple complex. It will be completed in phases in the future.

Ram Temple Draws Unprecedented Crowds

After the consecration of the Ram Temple in January 2024, the shrine witnessed 5.5 crore devotees.

In 2025, the number expanded to 23 crore visitors, mainly during festivals such as Ram Navami, Dussehra, and Diwali.
