Indian cricket team all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been named in a legal complaint alleging disrespect of the Indian national flag during the T20 World Cup 2026 victory celebrations at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

The complaint is registered at the Shivaji Nagar Police Station in Pune. The person who filed the complaint against the all-rounder is a Pune-based advocate, Wajid Khan.

Although he did not give much detail, he still wanted appropriate steps taken.

This occurred after the team's third T20 World Cup win.

Back to the controversial matter, complainant Khan told ANI that Hardik had no shame in celebrating India’s victory with his girlfriend, Maheika, while wearing a flag tied to his back.

Under Section 2 of the 1971 National Flag Act, the national flag must be treated with dignity and respect.

In Pandya's case, he appeared unaware of the flag protocol, celebrating so enthusiastically that he lay down with his girlfriend, the national flag on his back. This was considered a significant insult.

Khan stated that police informed him the incident happened in Ahmedabad.

He argued that a complaint should be filed in Pune since the national flag represents the whole country.

According to Wajid, his complaint has been accepted at the Shivaji Nagar police station, and he has also received a copy.
