Ajit Pawar's Remains Brought Home; Sharad Pawar Attends Funeral
Ajit Pawar's body has been brought to Katewadi. NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar arrived to attend the last rites.
The final rites of the NCP leader will be conducted at Vidya Pratishthan in Baramati at 11:00 AM on Thursday, 29. It will be done with full state honours.
What Happened to Ajit Pawar?
On Wednesday morning, Ajit Pawar, who was travelling along with four others, died when the plane crashed in Baramati town in Maharashtra. This sparked scrutiny of the flight operator and airstrip safety.
The plane on which Pawar, who was 66 years old, was travelling was a mid-size business jet that departed Mumbai at 8:10 AM and was scheduled to land at Baramati.
He was coming to address rallies ahead of the upcoming rural body elections.
PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah To Attend Ajit Pawar’s Funeral Today
Following the untimely demise of NCP leader, the Pawar family will conduct the final rites today at 11:00 AM at Vidya Pratishtan, an educational institute.
Besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, leaders from other political parties, and citizens from diverse backgrounds will also attend the funeral rites of the late NCP leader.
Party workers from Baramati and across the state will also attend.
Who Were the Other Occupants in the Tragic Plane Crash?
Besides Maharashtra NCP Ajit Pawar, the other people who lost their lives in the plane crash were Pawar’s personal security officer Vidhit Jadhav, captain Sumit Kapoor, first officer Shambavi Pathak, and flight attendant Pinky Mali.
Ajit Pawar Death Reason: What Happened?
The news of the death has brewed curiosity about the actual cause of the crash. According to news sources, the jet took off from Mumbai at 8:10 AM, scheduled to land at Baramati.
After flying for 13 minutes, the Learjet 45 began the approach, but the pilot called off due to poor runway visibility.
The jet circled back for a second landing at 8:43 AM. Minutes later, as the plane attempted to land, it lost control near the runway, caught fire, and crashed.
According to Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, the main reason behind the plane crash was poor visibility. Later, the ministry also stated that the weather was calm with visibility at 3,000 metres.
‘Don’t Make It a Political Issue’, Urges NCP Chief Sharad Pawar
NCP Chief Sharad Pawar requested people not to politicize his nephew's death. He added that the crash was an accident and should not be turned into a political issue.

- Born on July 22, 1959, Ajit Pawar was the son of Asha and Anantrao Pawar.
- He entered politics in 1982 and followed in his uncle, Sharad Pawar's, footsteps after being elected to the board of a sugar factory.
- Pawar was elected to the Lok Sabha from Baramati in 1991, later stepping down to make way for his uncle, then Defence Minister.
- From 1991 onwards, he represented Baramati as an MLA for eight terms.
- Pawar then served as the state’s deputy chief minister six times under chief ministers Uddhav Thackeray, Pritiviraj Chavan, Eknath Shinde, and Devendra Fadnavis.
- The late NCP leader is survived by his wife, Sunetra Pawar (Rajya Sabha member), and two sons, Jay and Parth Pawar.
