Midnight Arrest: Bihar MP Pappu Yadav Held in 1995 Forgery Case

On Friday, Patna Police arrested Independent Bihar MP Pappu Yadav, real name Purnea Rajesh Ranjan, from his residence for his alleged connection to a 1995 forgery case.

​The high-voltage midnight drama followed a court-issued property attachment warrant for repeatedly skipping court hearings.

Under what forgery case was Pappu Yadav arrested?

As per the complaint filed by the house owner, he stated that the MP forcibly acquired his property for use as the MP's office.

​The matter concerns a dispute registered at the Gardanibagh police station.

​As per the complainant, Vinod Bihari Lal, he was misled into renting out his house, which was later used as an MP's office without his knowledge.

​According to city SP Bhanu Pratap, Yadav has been arrested in accordance with court orders. He added that there were already court cases against him, but he never bothered to appear when he was supposed to.

Pappu Yadav Arrest: What Happened?

As per Pappu Yadav's arrest news update, a police team with 50 personnel came to his Mandiri residence around 10:30 PM and arrested him at 12:15 AM.

​Before that, the police first told the MP that they were following the court’s order for his arrest.

​In response, Yadav told them to visit in the morning, as he does not find it appropriate to venture out at night.

What Was The Scene Outside MPs House?

At the time of Pappy Yadav's arrest, many of the party supporters from JAN (Jan Adhikar Party), Pappu Yadav’s party name, gathered outside his residence and began their protests against the police. They asked them to see the arrest warrant.

​What Pappu Yadav Alleged

The Purnea MP alleged that an inspector named Deepak came to his residence in civilian dress. He also carried a revolver in his waist.

According to him, it was a conspiracy to kill him, and he avoids going out at night.

​He further stated that he received a call from the court on Saturday. After the end of the Lok Sabha session, he arrived at Patna.

​Yadav also mentioned that he respects the court order and will visit it by 11:00 AM on Saturday.

Post Arrest Update

After his arrest at 12:30 AM, Yadav was taken to the IGIMS for a medical checkup by the police team led by city SP Bhanu Pratap Singh.

​According to the city SP, before producing him in the court, they will keep the politician in police custody at the Gardanibagh police station.

​The police will take further action against Yadav per the court’s direction.

City SP Defends Midnight Arrest, Says Arrest Was Legal

According to city SP Bhanu Pratap, the police have the right to arrest a person at any time, with a warrant or attachment in the name of someone.

​Regarding the allegation by the MP, who pointed out a conspiracy to kill him, SP Singh replied that we are doing our job in accordance with the law.

The MP-MLA court issued an order against three accused, including MP Pappu Yadav.

​They are charged with cheating a house owner and threatening him. The arrest warrants and court notices had earlier been issued to them.
