Pinarayi Vijayan Daughter Case: On Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate searched 10 places in Kerala, including the home of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

These searches are linked to a money laundering investigation involving Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and his daughter.

Kerala CM raid: Officials told media that the raids are part of the ongoing Enforcement Directorate investigation.

The probe looks into suspected irregularities involving Cochin Minerals, Rutile Limited, and Exalogic Solutions Pvt Ltd, which belongs to Vijayan’s daughter, T Veena.

The searches happened a day after the Kerala High Court refused to stop the ED investigation.

The Enforcement Directorate also searched the home of former minister and MLA PA Muhammad Riyas in Kozhikode. He is married to T Veena.

Kerala Corruption Case: CMRL Under Probe for Alleged Bribery, Money Laundering

Pinarayi Vijayan house raided: Authorities are investigating CMRL, a company in Kerala that makes synthetic rutile and industrial chemicals, for suspected bribery and money laundering.

The main issue involves allegations that Exalogic Solutions received large payments from CMRL without providing any services.

Vijayan is not named as an accused, but the case has led to a major political uproar. The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation owned 13.4% of CMRL.

CMRL Money Laundering Case: How It Began

CMRL case: The allegations first surfaced in August 2023. Reports said Exalogic got Rs 1.72 crore from CMRL between 2017 and 2020 without providing services.

After this, the Centre asked the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) to look into the matter.

In its 160-page complaint, the SFIO named Veena, CMRL’s Sasidharan Kartha, and 25 others as accused.

Kerala High Court ED Case: Several Companies in the List

T Veena fraud allegations: The agency also listed several companies, including CMRL, Exalogic Solutions, and its subsidiary, Empower India Capital Investments.

The SFIO says Veena’s company received Rs 2.70 crore from CMRL. Separately, the Income Tax Interim Settlement Board said in 2023 that Rs 1.72 crore was paid, based on statements from CMRL employees.

In April 2025, the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs approved prosecution against T Veena, which led to more speculation and tension about the alleged illegal payments.

Pinarayi Vijayan Daughter Case: Corporate Fraud Charges Under Companies Act May Attract Up to 10 years Jail, Hefty Fine

The charges fall under Section 447 of the Companies Act, 2013, which deals with corporate fraud.

This offence can lead to a jail term of 6 months to 10 years and a fine up to three times the alleged fraud amount.

Brief About Pinarayi Vijayan

Pinarayi Vijayan is recognized across Kerala for his determination, persistence, and creativity. People affectionately call him ‘Comrade Pinarayi.’

He was born in 1944 as the 14th child of Mundayil Koran and Kalyani in the village of Pinarayi, which was then part of the Madras Presidency.

He grew up in poverty and lost his father when he was young. These challenges forced him to stop his studies after finishing school.

Vijayan worked as a handloom weaver for a while before enrolling in a pre-university course at Govt Brennen College Thalassery.

Leadership Journey

1. He later earned a B.A. in Economics from the same college. During this period, he became active in student politics and began his political journey as a member of the Kerala Students Federation (KSF), which later became the Students’ Federation of India (SFI).
2. As a student leader, Pinarayi served as both President and Secretary of the KSF. He was also President of the Kerala Socialist Youth Federation (KSYF). He participated in many student and youth movements that focused on welfare and progress.
3. At 24, Pinarayi joined the Kannur District Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). By 28, he was elected to the District Secretariat and soon became respected within the party and by the public.
4. He joined the State Secretariat in 1988. Pinarayi first ran for the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1970 from Kuthuparamba and won. He was re-elected in 1977, 1991, 1996, and 2016, each time with a bigger majority.
5. As a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, he defended people's rights and supported the underprivileged.
6. He spoke out against the Central Government during the National Emergency (1975 to 1977), which led to his arrest and harsh treatment.
7. Despite the hardships he faced, his morale stayed strong. He remained determined and soon returned to public life, continuing to speak up for the people.
8. Pinarayi was appointed Minister for Electricity and Co-operation. Under his leadership, the state quickly made significant progress in generating and distributing electricity and moved closer to self-sufficiency.
9. He is still considered one of the best electricity ministers Kerala has had.
10. Pinarayi left the ministry in 1998 to become the State Secretary of the CPI(M) in Kerala. His leadership helped strengthen the party's presence in the state.

12. Pinarayi was elected to the CPI(M) Polit Bureau. In 2002, Pinarayi was elected to the CPI(M) Polit Bureau, a position he still holds.
