​Sources say the oil tanker Safesea Vishnu, which was sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, was owned by a US company.

​The fatal attack happened near Khor Al Zubair port in Iraq’s territorial waters. During the incident, one Indian sailor lost his life, while other crew members escaped unhurt and were later taken to Basra in southern Iraq.

The videos circulating on social media show a massive explosion and a huge fire on two oil tankers.

According to the ship-tracking website TankerTrackers.com, the tankers were loaded with 400,000 barrels of Iraqi crude oil.

India had also condemned the Iranian attack on a cargo ship under the flag of Thailand.

The ship was sailing towards Gujarat’s Kandla Port when it was attacked by an Iranian projectile when it was heading towards India.

India’s MEA Takes Note of the Shipping Incident

Taking note of the incident, India’s Ministry of External Affairs called the attacks on commercial ships "threatening" in its statement.

IRGS Takes The Responsibility for the Attack

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps admitted they were behind the attack. According to them, the Thai ship ignored the warnings and entered the Strait of Hormuz.
