Rahul Gandhi Ramlila Maidan Rally Puts INDIA Bloc’s 2029 Leadership in Focus
It's still early, but the INDIA coalition allies seem comfortable with Rahul Gandhi as their leader. That's a marked contrast to when the coalition first came together before the 2024 elections and didn't have a leader at all. After the LS results and before the Bengal polls, there was discussion about who should lead the coalition, and many suggested Mamata Banerjee should be the leader. After the Bengal polls, she stepped back, and Rahul Gandhi emerged as the leader. They're still waiting to see what happens next.

Ramlila Maidan Protest | Long Chain of Mass Gather at India’s Delhi Rally
Rahul Gandhi Ramlila Maidan rally: With a motive to save the Constitution, Rahul Gandhi's INC bloc rally drew a large crowd, featuring characters ranging from superheroes Batman and Spider-Man to the mythological Angulimal, a dacoit known for his chain of severed fingers. His life changed after Buddha's guidance. However, the character once again came into existence this time as a message about EVM theft.
On Sunday, several members of the Congress student arm, NSUI, dressed as Angulimal in the middle of the Minto Road-Ramlila Maidan stretch. They sported a garland of plastic fingers, representing fingers that were unable to press the EVM button because their owners' names have been deleted from the rolls.
Among the participants were a two-year-old child excited to catch a glimpse of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and a 93-year-old senior citizen from Bihar who came to join the league. Ankur, a 40-year-old man, also participated in the rally and wore a black-and-gold crown with two white horns. He introduced himself as Kaal to punish those involved in vote theft. Planning for Friday’s Halloween Party, he came along with his daughter to make her aware of what’s happening in the country.
Sanjay from Sitamarhi, Bihar, who sells papad outside the Ramlila Maidan, pasted posters about vote theft on his basket. He said he was deleted from the list and now feels helpless to take further action. The rally also witnessed the participation of a 72-year-old farmer, Banwari Lal from Haryana. He was determined, saying no one can stop him from raising his voice against discrimination. Vidhya Dhar, an 80-year-old retired teacher from Varanasi, said that age is just a number, and he will keep raising his voice against injustice.
The rally saw people arrive by bus, waving party flags of Congress, the Left, RJD, and the Samajwadi Party. They hailed from different states, including Jharkhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. In Delhi, police detained many students on Minto Road as they marched toward Connaught Place.
Congress Opposition Rally | Rasheed Kidwai Shares His Opinion on INDIA Bloc's Rally at Ramlila Maidan
Rahul Gandhi Ramlila Maidan Rally: Rashid Kidwai, who has authored books on the Congress, shared his views on the INDIA Bloc's rally at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday. According to him, students, teachers, trade union leaders, the media, and intellectuals have always participated widely during major political shifts in India. He witnessed the same during Rajiv Gandhi's era over issues like Bofors, the Press Bill, and Shah Bano, and in the India Against Corruption movement between 2011 and 2014. Now he is observing the emergence of the same kind of convergence and pattern.
The only difference is the absence of media, because the opposition finds a section of the media unfavourable, which, according to him, is wrong. As a close observer of politics, Rasheed says Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has developed a reputation as a biased umpire. He is not sure of the full truth behind the allegation, but he questions his credibility.
Because of this, the future electoral outcomes seem controversial. When asked about Rahul Gandhi's alleged role in the rally, Kidwai says Gandhi's demands are clear: the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. According to him, Gyanesh Kumar cannot be compelled to resifgn by the ruling government. The only way to remove him is via impeachment.
