Shashi Tharoor recently criticised Donald Trump's claim that India would cease Russian oil imports. The US President even cited the assurance from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on it.

While talking to ANI, the Congress MP stated that the US President must refrain from making a self-announcement on India's decision to the world.

He wanted to remind him that New Delhi does not speak for Washington, DC.

‘Trump Should Not Tell The World What India Will Do’: Shashi Tharoor

Slamming the US President's claims over the halt on Russian oil imports by India, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor finds this announcement of Donald Trump very inappropriate.

According to him, just like we don't update the world about Trump's activities, the same courtesy is expected from the US President.

In other words, he doesn’t want Donald Trump to force his decisions on behalf of India, as New Delhi doesn’t represent Washington DC.

Claims By US President Donald Trump On Russian Oil Imports

During a press meeting in the White House on Wednesday, October 22, US President Donald Trump had made claims on India’s refusal of Russian oil imports by year-end.

He cited assurance from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, India has refuted these claims and denied any such agreement.

Instead, its focus is on safeguarding consumer interests. The country's energy policy focuses on ensuring price stability and a secure supply.

The move comes in the context of Trump imposing 50% tariffs on Indian products and pushing the country to diversify its energy sources.
