Gill spoke after reports claimed selectors told the 39-year-old this England series would be his last, as attention turns to the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, neither Rohit nor the selectors have confirmed this.
After scoring only 11 and 26 in the first two ODIs, Rohit bounced back with a brilliant 138 from 110 balls. It was his first ODI century at Lord’s.
Despite centuries from Rohit Sharma (138) and valuable contributions from Shubman Gill (77) and Virat Kohli (74), India were bowled out for 360 while chasing 388, as England won the match and the three-match ODI series 2-1.

Rohit Sharma Retirement Rumours: When asked about Rohit's future, Gill said there had been no discussion within the team about the veteran opener's retirement.
He added that Rohit had not mentioned any retirement plans and that the rumours were only in the media.

Gill also praised Rohit’s approach during the chase, saying he stayed calm and focused despite the tough target.

Gill said that once Rohit settled in, he increased the scoring rate and showed his experience.
Earlier, Gill told the host broadcaster that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli helped keep India in the game.

He also made it clear that Rohit is still a regular in India’s ODI team and will keep playing as long as the selectors want him.
Saikia said the Lord’s ODI was not meant to be Rohit’s last international match.
Rohit has always said he wants to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Although his form before the Lord’s ODI was questioned, his innings at Lord’s showed he can still perform at the highest level, even though India lost.

Rohit Sharma Future: Earlier this week, Rohit struggled in the Cardiff ODI, scoring 26 runs from 47 balls. While England was batting, a media report said the selectors had told Rohit he was not part of their World Cup plans, leaving his future uncertain.
The report also suggested that Rohit might play his last match at Lord's. But a few days later, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia denied these claims.
There was also a lot of talk about Rohit's relationship with head coach Gautam Gambhir and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar.
Talk about Rohit and Virat Kohli's future in ODIs began after they retired from Test cricket last year. Both have scored runs at times, but Gambhir and Agarkar have not given any clear updates about what will happen next.
They have not said if Rohit and Virat will be in the World Cup squad. However, both players have said they want to play in the tournament in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
