Pavan Rathnayake was the star of the show with 130, Avishka Fernando and Dasun Shanaka both made 97 and Janith Liyanage finished the job with 61 off 27 (27 balls).

Harry Brook Fastest Double Century in ODI | Breaks Shubman Gill’s Early Record
Kusal Mendis may have questioned his decision to bowl first when Brook went on to smash a 114-ball double century (breaking Shubman Gill's previous record). It didn't help Mendis when Gus Atkinson ran him out before he even faced a ball, leaving Sri Lanka two wickets down. The decision did pay off though as the heavy dew proved decisive and Sri Lanka won in absolutely dramatic fashion with just one ball to spare.
Sri Lanka vs England ODI | Liyanage Played a Perfect Innings
Josh Tongue gave England a glimmer of hope with two wickets in two balls (Dunith Wellalage and Eshan Malinga). No.10 Asitha Fernando then got Liyanage on strike. With six runs required from the last two balls, Liyanage hit Tongue to seal it. The Sri Lankan players immediately came out to the field to celebrate with Liyanage who was already celebrating as soon as he hit the winning shot.
Coming in at No.7 with Sri Lanka needing 107 from 58 balls he was the perfect finisher. He hit seven fours and three sixes (4, 4, 6 off Sam Curran) and only faced two dot balls. Brook praised both sides and said they were absolutely superb. He acknowledged it was a bit of a shame that Sri Lanka had dominated England and that the poor bowling had given the opposition an edge.
Sri Lanka vs England highlights | Brook Becomes the First Englishman to Score ODI Double Century
Fastest ODI double century: For Brook it was a fantastic achievement to chase 400 and he was absolutely right to be proud of it. Harry Brook set a number of records with his innings but one was rather bittersweet in the circumstances. He became the first Englishman to score an ODI double century but England still lost. He said the innings was a good one, just that since England had lost it meant very little to him.
Brook Was Best in His Fine Form
Harry Brook Fastest Double Century in ODI: Brook was in fine form throughout, mixing in scoops, reverse scoops, pick-ups and flat bats. He built big stands with both Joe Root (159) and Will Jacks (185). He was absolutely in control of the Sri Lankan bowlers and hit a nice paddle-sweep for four to get to 200 in the penultimate over. He was caught at deep point on the final ball.
He looked worn out after batting for two and a half hours in the afternoon heat, but needed just 39 balls to get his second hundred. He celebrated by running with his arms up. Brook started slowly, making only 13 from his first 24 balls as he settled in. After hitting two sixes in a row off Kamindu Mendis's part-time spin, he found his groove and kept going. He got to 50 off 42 balls, 100 off 75, 150 off 97, and 200 off 114. It was a real showcase of white-ball batting point.
When Sri Lanka Wished to Have Chosen Four Key Players Than to Rely on All Rounders
Sri Lanka probably wished they had chosen more than four main bowlers instead of relying on their allrounders for extra overs. Mendis, Shanaka, and Liyanage gave up 123 runs for just one wicket while filling in as the fifth bowler, and Brook took full advantage.
Together with Jacks, he scored 156 runs in the last 10 overs. The match looked nearly over when Avishka Fernando was given out LBW, leaving Sri Lanka at 38 for 3. But the decision was overturned on review, and he went on to add 166 runs with Rathnayake. Jamie Overton caught Fernando just three runs short of a hundred, but Shanaka came in at No. 5 and scored 133 from 79 balls for the fourth wicket.
Shanaka was given out twice (first behind off Atkinson on 32, then LBW to Liam Dawson on 41) with both decisions being overturned following the reviews. Getting him up the order obviously made a difference. Rathnayake eventually finished on 130 (his best international score) caught by Curran at wide long-on. Shanaka carried on with his innings.
He smashed 6 fours and 8 sixes in his 50-ball innings to finish on 97 (the 2nd highest score by a Sri Lankan batter), being caught in the deep off Dawson's very last ball. With 67 needed from 36 balls Liyanage took over, hitting 3 boundaries off Overton and then reverse scooping, scything and clubbing Curran for 3 more in succession.
Curran Struggles with Ball in Wet Situation
Harry Brook Fastest Double Century in ODI: During the match between England and Sri Lanka, Curran struggled with the ball in the wet and was fortunate when Sahan Arachchige was caught at long-on off a high full toss (which was adjudged just below waist height). By that point Curran had set a new record for England in ODIs (worst ever) with 2 for 103 in 9 overs and Brook was attempting other bowlers at the end.
Wellalage Hit Boundaries; Liyange Seals Epic Win For Sri Lanka
Wellalage hit boundaries off Jacks to leave just 13 required from the last 12 balls. Overton then conceded just 5 in the 49th over. After Liyanage took a single off the first ball of the 50th, Wellalage lost his middle stump attempting to drive Tongue to the leg side and Malinga was bowled first ball by a yorker.
With 7 needed off 3 balls and Tongue on a hat-trick, Asitha Fernando (19 in 35 previous ODIs) cut a single down to deep third to bring Liyanage back on strike. Tongue set his field deep on the leg side and brought mid-off up but his slower ball was spot on and Liyanage hit it back over his head. The crowd went absolutely wild in Pindi.
