Even though he sensed the injury, he decided to compete because he did not want to give up after years of hard work.

Tejas Shirse's Journey: From a 'Gone Case' to a Commonwealth Games Shot

In mid-February, the 24-year-old hurdler from Maharashtra and his support team made a difficult decision.

Tejas Shirse injury: Still recovering from an ankle injury suffered late in 2025, Shirse appeared unlikely to qualify for the Commonwealth Games.

With limited time and the risk of rushing his comeback, they decided to stop focusing on the event.

Yet Shirse never gave up on the dream.

After spending four months away from competition, he returned in June at the Indian Athletics Series and clocked 13.27 seconds in the 110m hurdles.

The performance not only secured his place at the Commonwealth Games but also broke his own national record.

The timing carried extra significance. Months earlier, while recovering, Shirse had written a list of goals on his iPad.

The first target was to run 13.27 seconds. Achieving that exact mark felt like a sign that his recovery was on track.

The next goal on the list is even bigger—winning Commonwealth Games gold.

The injury initially left him fearing the worst. After hurting his ankle, Shirse worried his career could be over.

Although scans confirmed there was no fracture, he had badly stretched multiple ligaments and faced a lengthy rehabilitation.

Unable to hurdle or sprint, he focused on strength training. His coach ensured every session remained demanding, helping him maintain elite-level fitness.

As rehab progressed, the focus shifted to strengthening both ankles.

Tejas Shirse Injury: The Rehab That Changed Everything for Tejas Shirse

According to Shirse, the process not only healed the injury but made him physically stronger, improving his ground contact and overall speed.

The recovery also strengthened him mentally. Shirse believes athletes who trust the rehabilitation process return with greater confidence, while rushing back often creates fear of another injury.

By committing fully to rehab, he says he was able to compete without hesitation.

Tejas Shirse Embraces Glasgow Challenge With Eyes on the Finish Line

Now training in Poland ahead of the Commonwealth Games, Shirse knows the field will be strong, with top hurdlers from Jamaica and South Africa.

Still, his approach remains simple: every athlete has the same lane and the same ten hurdles, and his only objective is to cross the finish line first.

He admits the Asian Games may offer a more realistic medal opportunity, but he is embracing the challenge in Glasgow.

Having already turned one dream from his manifestation list into reality, Shirse hopes the next one will follow.
