Salman Khan Court Case: A Quick Flashback

To understand why Salman Khan reacted so strongly, it's useful to look at what happened in the original case.

In September and October 1998, Salman Khan was in Jodhpur filming Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.

During breaks, he and his co-stars Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, and Neelam Kothari were accused of going on night safaris.

On October 1, two blackbucks, which are endangered in India, were shot and killed near Kankani village.

Villagers from the Bishnoi community said they heard gunshots, chased the vehicle, and saw Salman Khan.

A trial court later found Salman Khan guilty of killing the two blackbucks, which are a protected species, and sentenced him to five years in jail.

The other four actors who were charged were acquitted. After spending two nights in Jodhpur jail, Khan got bail and appealed the conviction in a higher court.

The case has lasted for almost 28 years. The legal team of Salman Khan says the blackbuck case is still awaiting a final decision in the Rajasthan High Court. Because of this, his team has filed a lawsuit against the film.
