Delhi Police Protest News: ACP Manasvi Vashishta Suspended After Shahdara Clash

ACP Manasvi Vashishta suspended: Delhi Police ACP Manasvi Vashishta (who led the protest outside police headquarters on Monday) has been suspended. The suspension followed a protest by a number of Delhi Police officers (including ACP Vashishta) at the police headquarters on Jai Singh Road. The officers had been there to meet Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar over a recent spat with lawyers in Shahdara (east Delhi).

Delhi Police Protest News | ACP & SHO Transfer Amid Clash

SHO Arun Kumar transfer: Amid clash between lawyers and Delhi Police, both ACP Vashishta and Arun Kumar (SHO of the Shahdara police station) have been transferred. The transfer came after the city's lawyers had launched an indefinite strike over the way the assault case involving lawyer Lalit Bansal had been dealt with. The lawyers, who went on strike last week, said that both the ACP and the SHO had threatened the advocates who had gone to the police station to demand action against the accused in the Bansal case.

During the protest on Monday Vashishta said they wanted to meet the Police Commissioner. As the crowd chanted 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Police Ekta Zindabad' he made it clear that that was their principal demand. He also said there should be a Standard Operating Procedure in place for such a situation. He went on to say that if the police are treated in this manner, they will not be able to protect the people of the city.

Shahdara Police Station Lawyers’ Clash | Women Officers Also Join Protest with Placards & Posters

Delhi Police Protest News: Based on media reports, around 100 police personnel, including women officers, joined the protest with placards and posters. The protest came about following the issue of transfer orders on the 28th of October, after the lawyers from the district courts had made demands following the Shahdara incident. The lawyers had called for action against the officers which led to an indefinite strike which eventually came to an end with the transfers.

There are reports that messages in the Delhi Police WhatsApp groups had been circulating to the effect that the officers should come together in support of the transferred officers and ask for their postings to be restored. The District DCPs and the unit heads had been instructed not to allow their staff to participate in the protest but the protest still took place outside the HQ. The whole thing stemmed from the incident at the Shahdara police station on the 23rd of October when advocate Lalit Bansal sustained a very serious head injury.

Delhi Police Lawyers’ Confrontation

Delhi Police Protest News: The lawyers said that when the advocates went to the police station to seek action, ACP Manasvi Vashishta had threatened them by producing her service revolver. In response the lawyers from all the district courts in Delhi had gone on an indefinite strike. On the 28th of October ACP Vashishta was transferred from the Gandhi Nagar subdivision to the SPUWAC (Special Police Unit for Women and Children) and Shahdara SHO Arun Kumar was transferred to the Security Unit.

The strike was thus called off after the transfers. The transfers however did not sit well with some of the Delhi Police officers. Later on, police personnel called for a gathering outside PHQ on Monday the 2nd of November to demand action against the lawyers and for the reinstatement of both officers.

Delhi Police Headquarters Protest

Delhi Police Protest News: Officers began to gather outside the HQ in the morning which led to a very tense situation for several hours. It was only after talks with the senior officers that the situation was finally brought under control. The reported suspension of ACP Vashishta late on Monday night is a significant development in the continuing controversy and is a clear indication of the level of tension that exists within the police force following the dispute with the lawyers.

Delhi Police Officers Demand SOP

Delhi Police Protest News: On Monday, 2nd November, during protests outside Delhi Police Headquarters, demonstrating personnel submitted a formal list of five core demands to Joint CP Nupur Prasad. The main objective of these demands was to ensure the safety of police officers in light of the altercation between bar patrons and the police. Here is the structural breakdown of the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).

CategorySpecific Demand
Operational SOPsTo prepare SOPs to control and resolve violent clashes between lawyers and police officials inside court premises and police stations.
Entry RestrictionsTo prevent threatening and intimidating behaviour, there should be legal limits on how many advocates can enter the SHO's or a police officer's office at any given time.
Judicial SecurityProvision of strong security arrangement for police personnel when visiting court proceedings or court complex grounds.
Legal ProtectionA directive, based on ACP Vashishta's complaint, authorises a thorough investigation into the lawyer's aggressive conduct and obstruction, without quashing it.
Grievance & ReinstatementAn institutional grievance redressal committee must be set up to hear complaints against lawyer's unreasonable use of power with instant revocation of the transfer orders for ACP Manasvi Vashista and SHO Arun Kumar.

An Overview of Lalit Bansal Assault Case

The ongoing clash between the Delhi Police and lawyers of the District Court, Delhi, is linked to the Lalit Bansal assault case that took place on 23rd October 2026 at Delhi's Shahdara Police Station. During the altercation, Lalit Bansal received serious injuries to his head, following which an FIR was registered against Rahul Thakur. After that, a group of lawyers visited the Police station to demand that the accused be put behind bars. But they later learned the suspects had been released.

According to lawyers, ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police) Manasvi Vashishta took out his service revolver and threatened them. But police claim the lawyers obstructed public servants from doing their duty. Then, on 27th October, the Coordination Committee of All District Courts Bar Association of Delhi staged an indefinite strike, which affected all judicial work across all district courts.
