Mumbai Pune Train Services Suspended: Landslides Bring Mumbai-Pune Rail Services to a Halt

Maharashtra Heavy Rainfall: Continuous rainfall caused multiple landslides in the Bhor Ghat section, one of the busiest railway routes connecting Mumbai and Pune.

According to Central Railway, the first landslide occurred around 3:05 am near Thakurwadi in the Karjat-Lonavala section.

Another landslide was reported shortly afterwards between Khandala and Monkey Hill, blocking railway tracks and affecting train movement.

Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, said all three railway lines in the Bhor Ghat section were impacted.

These include the Up line towards Mumbai, the Down line towards Pune and the Middle line.

He said the landslides were caused by continuous heavy rainfall in the South East Ghat section between Karjat and Lonavala. Railway teams were immediately sent to remove debris and begin restoration work.

Several Mumbai-Pune Trains Cancelled and Diverted

Mumbai Pune Train Services Suspended: The landslides forced Central Railway to cancel, divert and reschedule several train services.

Among the cancelled trains were the CSMT-Pune Indrayani Express, Intercity Express, Deccan Express, Deccan Queen, Pragati Express and Dhule Express. The Pune-CSMT Sinhagad Express was also cancelled.

Apart from cancellations, several long-distance trains were either diverted, delayed, short-terminated or started from different stations to reduce disruptions.

Railway authorities said repair work is underway and advised passengers to check the latest train status before heading to the station.

Mumbai Pune Expressway Closed

Mumbai Pune Train Services Suspended: Road travel between Mumbai and Pune was also badly affected as authorities closed both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune Highway until further notice.

Heavy rain caused landslides, flooding and waterlogging at several locations, making travel unsafe.

Traffic on the Pune-bound side of the Khopoli-Kusgaon Missing Link was diverted early Monday after a landslide near the exit of Tunnel 2.

Officials also said that many stretches of the old Mumbai-Pune Highway were flooded due to overflowing water, forcing authorities to stop vehicle movement.

Mumbai Pune Train Latest News: Police Ask People to Avoid Travel

Police have requested people to avoid travelling between Mumbai and Pune unless it is absolutely necessary.

In a public advisory, authorities asked commuters to postpone their journeys until weather conditions improve.

They also urged people to follow traffic updates and advisories issued by government agencies before planning any trip.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) said traffic diversions had been in place since 4 am as a precautionary measure.

The agency said it is working closely with the Highway Traffic Police to monitor the situation. Motorists have been advised to avoid the route until it is declared safe.

Flooding Hits Alternate Routes

Mumbai Pune Train Latest Update: Heavy rainfall also disrupted alternate routes connecting Mumbai and Pune.

Police said flood-like conditions developed in parts of Maval and Tamhini Ghat, making travel difficult on these roads as well.

Officials also confirmed that the Mumbai-Pune Expressway was closed between the Connecting Link and Missing Link sections after a concrete pillar collapsed onto the carriageway.

The Highway Traffic Police control room said the Khandala Ghat stretch remained heavily affected due to waterlogging and fresh landslides, resulting in long traffic jams.

Schools and Colleges Remain Closed

Mumbai Pune Train Services Suspended: With the IMD predicting more heavy rain, authorities declared a holiday on Monday for all government, private and civic-run schools and colleges in Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Palghar districts.

The decision was taken to ensure the safety of students, teachers and school staff, as many roads remained flooded and transport services continued to face disruptions.

Restoration Work Continues

Railway officials, traffic police, disaster response teams and other government agencies are working together to restore normal services as quickly as possible.

However, continuous rainfall is making restoration work difficult, and authorities have warned that travel disruptions may continue if the weather does not improve.

Passengers planning to travel by train should check the latest railway updates before leaving home.

Similarly, motorists should follow traffic advisories and avoid travelling on the Mumbai-Pune route unless absolutely necessary.

With more rain expected over the next few days, officials remain on high alert and have appealed to the public to stay indoors whenever possible and cooperate with emergency services until the situation returns to normal.
