Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s efforts, including expanding renewable energy, the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, the Global Biofuels Alliance, and working with other countries to support the green transition.

He said both Seychelles and India want a more inclusive world where international institutions reflect today’s realities.

Their shared belief in shaping the future together has led India to focus on the Global South’s priorities in international talks.

This vision supports ongoing cooperation for a safer Indian Ocean. Seychelles is not just a group of islands; its maritime area covers almost 1.4 million square kilometres, making it a “large ocean country.”

Its efforts to protect marine ecosystems and to introduce innovations such as Blue Bonds have influenced global discussions.

“Together, we can build partnerships in fisheries, marine science, coastal management, renewable energy and sustainable tourism,” he said.

Modi also noted that one in every 50 people in Seychelles has received training in India, including students, professionals, officials, and security personnel.

He suggested focusing on digital innovation, including India’s digital public infrastructure, to create more opportunities, improve governance, support financial inclusion, and provide better services.

In his message, PM Modi highlighted the urgent need to address the climate crisis and called on countries to work together.

It is already being implemented through India’s programs, such as the LiFe Mission, and through its leadership in groups such as the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

PM Modi Receives a New Environmental Recognition in Seychelles

PM Modi Seychelles Latest Update: ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ is a new award given to PM Modi by Seychelles President H.E. Dr Patrick Herminie.

It joins several other international honours that recognise the Prime Minister's work in sustainability and inclusive development.

In May, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) gave PM Modi the Agricola Medal for his work to improve food security, modernize agriculture, and promote sustainable farming.

In 2018, he received the Seoul Peace Prize for supporting sustainable economic growth, international cooperation, and inclusive development.

That same year, the United Nations gave him the Champions of the Earth Award, its highest environmental honor, for his leadership in climate action and protecting the environment.
