NDA’s New Govt to Take Oath on Nov 20; PM Modi Likely to Join the Event

Days after its thumping win in the Bihar Assembly polls, the new NDA government will take the oath on 20th November (Thursday), at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Nitish Kumar will be the Chief Minister of Bihar for the tenth time. The final decision of him to continue as Chief Minister was finalised during the meeting with Amit Shah in Delhi yesterday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi may join the swearing-in ceremony. He will address over a dozen rallies during the Assembly poll campaign.

With the support of NDA allies taking charge of Bihar's top post again, Nitish Kumar chaired his last cabinet meeting at 11:30 AM before the formation of new government.

According to a senior Janata Dal (United) leader, after passing the resolution, this will authorise Nitish Kumar to meet the Governor at Raj Bhavan with the proposal to dissolve the outgoing Assembly.

The development followed a meeting between Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Singh Gunjiyal and the Governor on Sunday, attended by the recently elected members of the Assembly polls, swept by the NDA.

Meeting on New Bihar Government Formation

The NDA secured a majority of 202 seats out of 243, with the BJP winning 89 seats, followed by the JD(U) 85, LJP taking 19, and other partners Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) securing nine seats. The RJD-led Mahagathbandhan won only 35 seats.

JD(U) Aiming for Additional Cabinet Posts

Speaking anonymously, a JD(U) leader said that the party is hoping for more cabinet posts this time, as its MLA strength has increased from 12 members.

In 2020, it had fewer than 50 members. However, he also admitted that the meeting of all demands is impossible, with LJP(RV) and RLM being the new entrants in the coalition.

Is LJP(RV) Pushing for the Deputy CM Role?

Meanwhile, Chirag Paswan also stated that LJP(RV) is keen to participate in the new government.

Even though he avoided answering the question about whether his party was seeking the post of Deputy Chief Minister.

In the outgoing government, Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha from the BJP are the Deputy Chief Ministers.

On Sunday, HAM chief Jitan Ram Manjhi and RLM president Upendra Kushwaha conducted separate meetings with BJP leader Vinod Tawde, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who served as the BJP's election in-charge in Bihar.

According to sources, Manjhi and Kushwaha have discussed the formation of a new government in Bihar.

Tejaswi Yadav to Assess RJD’s Poor Performance

Tejaswi Yadav, who retained his Raghopur seat, is now planning to examine the core reason behind the crushing defeat of RJD, with a steep fall of the party's tally to 25 seats from 75 in 2020.

To figure this out, the RJD legislature party will conduct a meeting at its Patna Polo Road residence at 2:00 PM. Candidates who were defeated will also be present.
