India Emerges as a Symbol of Stability and Reliability, Says PM Modi

During his speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that with vibrant democracy and reliability, India is capable of guiding the world as a steady lighthouse in tough times.

The Indian Prime Minister also mentioned the massive investment of Rs 70,000 in the maritime sector.

It will boost the domestic capacity, development of new and existing shipyards, and employment for the people.

Pointing out the crucial state of India's maritime sector in the 21st century, PM Modi said the next 25 years will shape its future.

He added that the trade has now become easier with the creation of the Coastal Shipping Act.

India’s Key Developments in the Maritime Sector

Highlighting the key developments in the maritime sector in the past decades, PM Modi called it 'truly historic'.

He noted that during these years, the port capacity has doubled, cruise tourism has increased, cargo movement has surged up to 700 per cent, and operational waterways have risen to 32 from three.

India's position among the top three seafaring nations is a milestone. There has been a rise in the number of seafarers from 1.25 lakh to more than three lakhs in the past decade.

Today, it is impossible to expect the absence of Indian ships across the world.

Shipbuilding Set to Be a Key Priority

Referring to more developments in the maritime sector, India will emphasise sustainable coastal development, port connectivity, and green logistics.

Besides these, the shipbuilding will be a high priority. PM Modi also said that India was a major player in shipbuilding in the past.

Recalling the vision of Maratha legend Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the utility of the sea for a potential trade route and security, he mentioned India’s significant role in global shipping trade.

Now India will ace in becoming a global maritime power.
