Parliament Winter Session 2025 Starts Amid High Political Tensions

As the Parliament Winter Session 2025 starts today, the key issues in the early discussions will centre on the revision of voter lists, the death of an election official in Bengal, and growing tension among people after the current Delhi Red Fort blast.

Opposition Calls for a Debate on SIR

The main issue in the debate right now is the persistent Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.

The opposition parties, especially the Trinamool Congress, are asking for a detailed discussion on this.

According to them, the revision is not done properly, leading to excess pressure on Election Commission staff, mainly after the death of an official in Bengal.

Leaders from 36 parties raised the issue at an all-party meeting and called on Parliament to act swiftly.

Debate on 10th November, Delhi Blast

Besides the electoral roll controversy, the Opposition demands a serious discussion on the 10 November Delhi Red Fort blast, which has already heightened political tensions, and is questioning the preventive measures for national security.

The incident happened when a powerful car exploded near the Red Fort Metro Station (Gate number 1) in New Delhi. It took many people's lives and left dozens injured.

Following the blast, the other vehicles also caught fire, spreading panic among people in the crowded streets of Chandni Chowk.

The National Investigation Agency took over the charge and started its investigation.

Introduction of 14 Bills

Apart from these issues, the government is also heading for a hectic legislative schedule.

The emphasis is also on the introduction of 14 bills on the agenda in this Winter Session, which will conclude on 19 December with 15 sittings.

Among the bills to consider are the Atomic Energy Bill, Education Commission of India Bill, and changes in arbitration, corporate, insurance, and excise laws.

The discussion on the financial bill on health and national security cess is also expected during the parliamentary winter session.

Other Highlights of Winter Session 2025
