PM Modi Meeting News: A Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting was convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Israel-US-Iran conflict entered its fourth week, with oil topping $100, concerns about gas shortages, and global cost-of-living pressures mounting.
According to Modi, the main objective behind conducting the meeting is to address the core issue of West Asia conflict, in reducing its impact.
He said on social media “We had extensive discussions on short-, medium- and long-term measures, including ensuring continued availability of fertilisers for farmers, diversifying import sources for key sectors, promoting exports to new destinations and more”.
The meeting emphasised how tensions in West Asia can negatively impact sectors such as fuel, shipping, supply chains, fertilisers, small businesses, agriculture, trade, power, finance, food, and exports.

According to officials, steps are being taken to lessen the impact of the persistent problem in West Asia.
Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan had briefed them on the global situation and actions taken by several ministries.
As the conflict is expected to have short- to medium-term and prolonged effects on the global economy, the government reviewed the possible impacts on India and emphasised immediate solutions and further actions to resolve it.
The cabinet discussion also focused on the necessary items such as fuel, energy, and food. It outlined the steps to maintain supply over the short-, medium-, and long-term.
Officials also stressed the impact on farmers, mainly the requirement for fertilisers for the Kharif season, and the need to ensure supply through alternative sources.
As noted in the readout, they also referred to the measures taken in recent years to maintain ample fertiliser stock, which will ensure food security and supply.
A maximum quantity of the world’s urea and sulphur is imported from West Asia. Already, the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz has negatively affected supplies of key materials such as potash used in fertilisers, ammonia, DAP, and LNG.
PM Modi latest news: To prevent a power deficit, the government has taken a stance on ensuring an adequate supply of coal to power plants.
It also discussed diversifying imports for the petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals sectors and seeking new export markets for Indian goods.
Measures To Be Finalised After Discussions with Stakeholders
The number of suggestions given by ministries at the meeting is yet to be finalised and will be implemented after consultations with stakeholders.
Meanwhile, under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a joint group of ministers and officials from across departments will coordinate.
PM Modi's latest update: Modi stressed the critical situation that poses a threat to the whole world; hence, efforts must be made to ensure the safety of citizens.
In coordination with states, he requested for the prevention of hoarding and black marketing of essential goods.
“We are committed to protecting our citizens from the impact of this conflict,” Modi said.
