US Iran Peace Talks Fail: JD Vance Shares Real Reason
JD Vance latest news: US Vice President JD Vance said one reason a deal was not reached during talks with Iranian officials in Pakistan was that the Iranian side did not have the authority to make final decisions. He added that Iran will ultimately decide what happens next in the war.
US - Iran Ceasefire: JD Vance Gives The Reason On Stalled Iran Talks
In a Sunday interview with Fox News, Vance talked about the recent US-Iran peace talks in Islamabad and explained why no deal was reached. He said Iran moved closer to the US position, but it was not enough to finalize an agreement.
Vance also added that Iran will decide what happens next in the war, since the US made its priorities and demands clear in the talks, saying that ‘the ball is very much in their court’.
“I wouldn’t just say that things went wrong. I also think things went right. We made a lot of progress,” Vance told Fox News. “They moved in our direction, which is why we saw some positive signs, but they didn’t move far enough,” he added.
‘Iranian Officials in Pak Lacked Power To Finalise a Deal’, Says Vance
US Iran talks: Vance also said the final decision may rest with a senior leader in Tehran, possibly the Supreme Leader.
He explained that the talks ended without a deal because the Iranian officials present did not have the authority to make final decisions.
Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, and Parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf were the main Iranian leaders at the talks.
“We learned more about how the Iranians are negotiating, and this is ultimately why we left Pakistan,” he said.
“What we figured out is that they were unable, I think, to make a deal. The team that was there had to go back to Tehran, either to the supreme leader or someone else, to get approval for the terms we had set,” he explained.

Iran War Ceasefire: Aragchi’s Different Approach to Why Talks Broke Down
US - Iran war: Araghchi, however, gave a different reason for why the talks broke down. He said the US and Iran were close to an agreement until the US announced a blockade of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, which changed the situation.
“In intensive talks at the highest level in 47 years, Iran engaged with the US in good faith to end the war. But when we were just inches away from an ‘Islamabad MoU’, we encountered maximalism, shifting goalposts, and a blockade,” Araghchi posted on his X handle after the meeting on April 13.
Trump Iran Peace Plan: US President Announces Naval Blockade of Iranian Ports

This measure is scheduled to take effect on 13th April, 2026. He also stated that Iranian fast attack ships approaching would be targeted for immediate elimination.
In response, Tehran has also vowed to retaliate against any military action in the Strait of Hormuz.
