Anaya Bangar Return to Cricket: On Thursday, during a media briefing, Anaya said she has not been given a guaranteed place in the WBBL or elite cricket, per Cricket Australia's decision.
She explained that she only gets the chance to try if she fulfils the necessary conditions.
The 25-year-old said she is getting ready to return to women's cricket in Australia and aims to compete for a place in elite cricket starting in March 2027.
She emphasised that the process is difficult and not automatic.
Anaya Bangar Women’s Cricket
Anaya Bangar WBBL Dream: She pointed out that Cricket Australia has a system meant to ensure fairness, competitiveness, and inclusion in women's sports, and her case was considered with that in mind.
For Anaya, the difference in approach is important; she sees the decision as a fresh start rather than a shortcut to the WBBL.
She said that Cricket Australia has given her a path forward, but not a guaranteed position on any team.
Anaya made it clear that she still needs to train, compete, perform, and earn her place at the highest level.
Her first step will be to play in community cricket in Australia.
Anaya Bangar WBBL Eligibility
Anaya Bangar WBBL Dream: Nevertheless, as per a media report on Tuesday, her participation in elite competitions such as the WBBL will be subject to Cricket Australia's eligibility rules.
Testosterone Criteria: The policy set by Cricket Australia for transgender and gender-diverse players requires that a player's serum testosterone level must be below 10 nmol/L for at least 12 months to qualify for elite cricket.
Anaya's eligibility will be assessed starting in March 2027, which will include a blood test.
Anaya Bangar March 2027: Cricketer to Meet Testosterone Criteria
Anaya Bangar WBBL Dream: Bangar mentioned that she is aware that Cricket Australia's clearance means she will be eligible for elite women's cricket from March 2027 only if she meets the policy requirements, including undergoing a blood test at that time.
If she meets the testosterone criteria in March 2027, she will then be able to apply for a spot in elite women's cricket, including the WBBL.
However, even if she meets the eligibility conditions, she will only be able to apply, and this will not ensure her a place on any team.
Anaya also said she does not expect her background or identity to help her secure a team spot and that she wants to earn her position through her performance on the field.
Cricket Australia Transgender Policy: Anaya Approaches BCCI About Eligibility In Women’s Cricket
Previously, the media reported that Anaya had first approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ask whether transgender athletes could play women's cricket in India.
When she did not get a response to her letter the previous year, she contacted Cricket Australia in June of this year.
Anaya stated that before making its decision, Cricket Australia reviewed her medical records, blood tests, documents related to her surgeries, and a research report from the Institute of Sport at Manchester Metropolitan University.
She added that although the BCCI had not responded after she sent them her athlete testing report and other documents, Cricket Australia had looked at the report, checked her medical history, and had a team examine her case.
Anaya also mentioned that she approached Cricket Australia and got clearance to play because they focus on.
