PV Sindhu World Championships: PV Sindhu and Ayush Shetty Spearhead a Memorable Day for India

PV Sindhu World Championships: Ayush Shetty and PV Sindhu finished their matches in just 61 minutes. By comparison, some matches lasted much longer, such as the 102-minute contest between Anders Antonsen and Nhat Nguyen.

Finishing quickly gave both Indian players an advantage, especially against strong opponents in the next round of the Badminton World Championships.

PV Sindhu vs Wang Zhi Yi: Sindhu beat Wen Yu Zhang of Canada 21-16, 21-17, and will now face World No. 3, Wang Zhi Yi. Wang leads their head-to-head 5-3 and has won the last three matches, but Sindhu won when they met at last year’s World Championship.

Sindhu came into the match after winning the Japan Open, and the two have played each other several times before.

Men's singles badminton: Ayush Shetty won his match against Dumindu Abeywickrama of Sri Lanka 21-8, 21-10 in just 26 minutes.

After his win, Ayush said the match felt like a breather compared to his previous one. He said he had played Abeywickrama before and used this match to try some new shots.

Next, he will face 11th seed Alwi Farhan of Indonesia, and it is expected to be a tough match. They have met four times at the senior level, with the head-to-head record tied at 2-2.

She looked confident on Monday, comfortably controlling her match despite Sophia Noble’s challenge in the second game.

Sindhu said the home crowd’s cheers gave her goosebumps and thanked fans for motivating her throughout the match.

Her victory marked a strong start for India, with all players progressing to the second round.

Ayush Shetty’s surprise win over Shi Yuqi further boosted the team’s confidence. Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, MR Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan, and Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi also advanced in their respective doubles matches.

Sindhu Prioritises Safety and Focus Amid Court Shifts

PV Sindhu World Championships: The World Championships hold special significance for Sindhu. She reached three successive finals between 2017 and 2019, winning the 2019 title in Basel by defeating Nozomi Okuhara. She also claimed bronze in 2013 after defeating two top Chinese players.

Sindhu ended a two-year wait for a title by winning the Japan Open last month. With the World Championships being held at home, she is hoping to end a nearly seven-year wait for another medal.

Her journey has spanned a generation that includes Saina Nehwal, Carolina Marin, Okuhara, Ratchanok Intanon and Akane Yamaguchi, while An Se-young now leads the women’s singles rankings.
