Anvay Dravid Latest News: Meet India's Next 'Wall'
- Anvay is following in his father’s footsteps. Dravid led the Under-19 team, made his India debut in ODIs and Tests in 1996, and played his only T20I in 2011.
- Across almost 500 international matches, Dravid scored nearly 25,000 runs and close to 50 international centuries.
- It would be remarkable if Anvay could achieve what his father did. Like his father, he is also a wicket-keeper batter.
- Anvay has taken a big step in his young career by being picked for the India Under-19 B squad for the upcoming tri-series in Bengaluru.
- The news made headlines, not only because of his famous last name, but also because it reflects years of effort behind the scenes.
- Anyone who has followed his father’s cricket journey will find this story familiar.
- As a wicketkeeper-batter, Anvay has played for Karnataka’s youth teams, captained his state in tournaments like the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, and put in performances that have made him stand out.
- Even though people often compare him to his father, the younger Dravid is focused on making his own name in cricket.
- Those who have seen him play in junior matches say he is disciplined, calm, and technically strong—qualities that remind them of his father, but are still unique to him.
- Anvay Dravid India U19: As a wicketkeeper-batter, he stood out in the 2023-24 Vijay Merchant Trophy, finishing as his state’s top run-scorer with 357 runs in five matches at an average of 45, including four half-centuries.
- He also led the scoring in the U-14 state league while playing for Vijaya Cricket Club. My brother, Samit, has already made his mark in Indian cricket.
- Last year, he was picked for the India U-19 squad for a home series against Australia U-19, but missed out because of a knee injury.
- In the Cooch Behar Trophy last year, he scored 362 runs and took 16 wickets in eight matches, helping his team win the title.
- Anvay is not alone. Indian cricket is seeing more second-generation players move up the ranks.
- Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin Tendulkar, has already played domestic cricket and appeared in the IPL as a left-arm seamer.
- Aaryavir Sehwag, son of Virender Sehwag, is making a name for himself in Delhi’s U-19 and DPL circuits with his aggressive batting, much like his father.
