Saif Ali Khan Langda Tyagi: In Vishal Bhardwaj's well-known adaptation of Shakespeare, Saif played the gangster Langda Tyagi, a role that many still see as his best.

In a recent interview, Saif said this performance helped him move past doubts from both the industry and the audience.

Saif Ali Khan reflected on his time working on Omkara, which came out in July 2006 and is often called one of the best Hindi adaptations of Shakespeare.

Saif Ali Khan Omkara: A Film Adapted From Othello

The film retells Othello in the political setting of Uttar Pradesh. Ajay Devgn played the lead, while Saif's character, Langda Tyagi, was based on the villain Iago.

The cast also featured Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, and Konkona Sen Sharma. Saif thanked Vishal Bhardwaj for trusting him with the role.

“Everyone was doubtful, but he was very kind and supportive and helped me with the dialogues.

‘’I did a lot of homework. I was on holiday in the Maldives, people were like, 'Why don't you rehearse in the heartland?'

Saif Ali Khan said while he was in Maldives, he read the script under an umbrella, and kept rehearsing for his lines, before he returned.

Saif Ali Khan Interview: In Omkara, Saif who played the negative role Langda Tyagi, earned him praises and even became recipient of Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.

He said that both the role and the positive feedback helped him gain acceptance in the industry, and he still feels the benefits today.

Expressing his gratitude for the film, he also added that his performance made filmmakers realise his excellence in playing different characters, something they had never expected.

They've said, 'Okay, if he's done that, then he can do this.' I enjoy playing roles like this in Kartavya, which is different from Omkara but still grounded and very different from who I am.

That's what acting is about. It's great to be able to use your own accent and body language and show people you can be different,” Saif added.

Kartavya is directed by Pulkit, who is known for Bhakshak, and produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment.
