16-Year-Old Girl Gang Raped and Murdered in Delhi, 4 Teens Arrested in Swaroop Nagar

On Thursday, the police said that a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered by four teenagers, three of whom were minors.

Her body was found in a field in Swaroop Nagar, in outer Delhi. All suspects have been apprehended by police. Officers arrested a 19-year-old man and held three minors.

Investigators said one of the accused was the victim's friend and that she had gone to meet him; police added that the other three accused were friends of the 17-year-old.

Several people involved in the case, who asked not to be named, told the press that the incident most likely took place on Friday.

16-Year-Old Girl Gang Raped: Girl’s Decomposed Body Discovered

On Sunday morning, the girl's body was discovered to be very decomposed, having first attracted the attention of local people because of the dogs and other animals being near it.

Girl’s body found in field in Swaroop Nagar: The police stated that they had been informed on Sunday morning of a body which had been found in a field close to Kushak Road in Swaroop Nagar.

The body was mutilated, with the right hand missing, and the face and abdomen were badly decomposed.

The first investigating officer said that although only two days had passed, the body decomposed quickly, likely because it was left outside.

16-Year-Old Girl Gang Raped: The officer stated that they were unable to identify the face, and the medical report confirmed the case of rape while noting eight wounds on the body.

He also stated that the evidence indicated the girl had been murdered and that her body was left in that area, where it was afterwards attacked by animals.

Senior police officers were initially unable to identify the girl. Teams were sent there to find out who she was and to locate her family.

On the basis of having looked at the family's statement and the results of the post-mortem examination, the police decided to open a case alleging murder, rape, and the destruction of evidence.

16-Year-Old Girl Gang Raped: The investigators stated that the girl had been stabbed more than once.

An investigation into how the body was dumped was started by a team headed by Lokeshwaran R, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North), and ACP Ravinder Ahlawat.

The police said none of the residents had seen the girl on Saturday night or Sunday, and they reviewed more than 50 CCTV cameras in the area to monitor movement around the field.

During the review, they noticed a tempo passing through the area around the time of the crime.

Although the investigators could not make out the vehicle registration, local enquiries carried out afterwards enabled them to identify the tempo.

Police Interrogates Tempo Driver

16-Year-Old Girl Gang Raped: Police questioned the tempo's driver, who said his 17-year-old younger brother frequently used the vehicle.

An investigator said the CCTV footage also showed four young boys in the tempo; police later identified the boys, though they had already left home.

Shobhit Saksena, Commissioner of Police (Outer North), said investigators determined the tempo's route through several CCTV cameras and local enquiries.

The police carried out the search from Tuesday into Wednesday. They traced the tempo to Khadda Colony, Swaroop Nagar, where they identified and questioned the driver. Investigators later arrested four people in connection with the case.

16-Year-Old Girl Gang Raped: The people accused were Shivam Ganesh, who is 19, and three minors who were 17 and 16 years old.

The investigators found two knives, which were said to have been used in the offence, together with the clothing that the accused were wearing.

According to two police officers, three of the accused admitted to having raped the victim.

The initial findings indicated that the victim had met the 17-year-old on Friday night; the investigator stated that the 17-year-old was the one who first allegedly raped her and that she then threatened to report the incident.

He said he had contacted his friends, who are said to have overpowered and raped her; it was reported that the accused were under the influence of alcohol at the time.

The officer stated that once the rape had been alleged, the man accused of the offence took the girl to an open field and stabbed her more than six times.

Before they left, they tried to cover her body with leaves and mud. The police are still investigating whether the rape, which is alleged to have taken place, was inside the vehicle or in the field.

Victim was Seeking Job to Feed Her Family, Says Police

16-Year-Old Girl Gang Raped: Police said the girl left school and moved to Swaroop Nagar a few years ago. She was seeking a job to help her parents and was living separately from them.

The police state that a missing person’s report was not made since her parents were unaware that she had left or that she had been missing for two days.

They identified her with help from residents who had seen her in the area earlier.

Saksena said the investigation is still ongoing to establish the full sequence of events, determine each person's role, examine all forensic and technical evidence, and see whether anyone else was involved.

He stated that investigators have been holding the recovered items for forensic examination and will take legal action if necessary.
