German Chancellor Merz Starts First India Visit, Meets PM Modi Today
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will make his first official two-day visit to India on Monday. Merz landed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Sunday night.
He will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi today in Ahmedabad. The joint meeting will take place at Sabarmati Ashram at 9:30 AM, followed by the International Kite Festival at Sabarmati Riverfront at 10:00 AM.

Their bilateral discussion among the delegations will begin at 11:15 AM at Mahatma Mandir, marking a significant moment in the relations between Berlin and New Delhi.
It aims to boost cooperation in security, economic, and strategic sectors.
Merz's visit will focus on bolstering the cooperation in core areas, including global security, trade, defence, clean energy, and investment.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's India Visit: Main Highlights
The main focus of German Chancellor Merz’s visit to India will be on developments that took place under the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, which has progressed over the last 25 years.
According to officials, the main focus of this discussion is to empower trade and investment, education, mobility, security, defence, and advanced technology.
Among the key areas of the discussion will include science, green and sustainable development, people-to-people ties, innovation and research.
Before this recent meeting, both leaders had met during the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, from June 15 to June 17 2025. It is where they agreed to expand the bilateral strategic partnership.
During the discussion between the two, PM Modi invited the German leader to make an official visit to India, which resulted in his current visit to India.
His visit also marks the upcoming India-EU Summit, scheduled on January 27. Germany is one of India's key partners in the European Union in the fields of defence, manufacturing, and clean energy.
