On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian pilot who rescued 174 people on a Flydubai flight, calling him a hero and praising his courage during the emergency.

PM Modi called Captain Smit Machchhar a hero and highlighted his courage and determination in protecting people, even after suffering a serious injury. He said Machchhar's bravery saved many lives and averted a major disaster.

The Prime Minister also said India is proud of Captain Machchhar and hoped he would recover quickly and regain his strength and good health.

Captain Smit Machchhar, who is from India, was likewise hailed as a hero by both US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Having repelled a knife attack from the co-pilot, he opened the cockpit door and called for assistance, thus preventing what was alleged to be an attempt to crash the plane.

Trump told reporters he had spoken to Netanyahu and said the pilot was in very serious condition but had shown great composure and acted heroically.

Smit Machchhar Saves Flydubai Passengers: Benjamin Netanyahu, who is the Israeli Prime Minister, also praised Smit Machchhar for having saved the passengers after he was stabbed by his colleague.

Israeli authorities stated that the passengers on the flight reached Israel safely on Wednesday after the passengers and the crew had stopped the co-pilot's attempt to crash the plane.

The co-pilot stabbed the pilot and caused the aircraft to descend by nearly 14,000 feet (4,267 metres) in under 30 seconds.

Smit Machchhar Saves Flydubai Passengers: A spokesperson for Netanyahu informed Reuters that Machchhar, who was found covered in blood on the floor, succeeded in activating the release mechanism and opening the cockpit door.

This allowed the passengers and crew to overpower the co-pilot, and a second pair of Flydubai pilots managed to land the jet in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

Indian authorities in Saudi Arabia said Machchhar is receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Tabuk and that they are staying in touch with his family and Saudi officials to provide all possible assistance.

The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia mentioned in a report that Machchhar was in a stable condition.

Flydubai Suspends Israel Flights After Pilot Dispute Turns Violent

Flydubai News: Media reports say Machchhar, from Mumbai, underwent surgery after the incident.

The cause of the dispute between the pilots remains unclear. In a statement, Flydubai said that the reasons are unknown and cautioned against premature speculation.

The airline has also suspended all flights to and from Israel as the investigation proceeds.

Netanyahu described the event as a serious security incident and said Saudi authorities would question the co-pilot of Flydubai flight FZ1073, which was en route from the United Arab Emirates to Israel.

Smit Machchhar Boeing 737 MAX 8: Machchhar has acted as a captain with flydubai's Boeing 737 fleet since June 2022, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He has accumulated 9,750 hours of flying the 737-800 and the 737 MAX 8 and 9.

Before joining flydubai, he worked at SpiceJet in Mumbai for 11 years, starting as a senior commander and later being promoted to line training captain in November 2020, where he was responsible for training and evaluating other pilots.

Machchhar is from Ghatkopar East in Mumbai and went to Dubai for his job.

According to his profile, he became a captain at flydubai through a direct-entry scheme, meaning he was hired directly into the captain position after working with another airline.

While at SpiceJet, he accumulated more than 6,400 hours as pilot-in-command.

His profile states that he obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration from the Welingkar Institute of Management from June 2007 to April 2008; it does not say where he received his pilot training.

Moreover, his brother is also a pilot with Akasa Air.

The Indian pilot Smit Machchhar, who was stabbed by his co-pilot on a flydubai flight, had earlier talked about the possibility of trained crew members saving lives in emergency situations.

The fact that he had reportedly stopped his co-pilot from crashing the plane caused many people to recall what he had said.

Smit Machchhar appeared on the Bona-Fide Banter podcast the previous year, during which he talked about mid-air emergencies, the risks of flying, how he became a pilot, and other parts of his job.

In the interview, Machchhar stressed the importance of the cabin crew, describing them as well-trained professionals with first-aid and emergency skills.

He made this point after the host asked about the differences between cockpit and cabin crew, explaining that cabin crew undergo extensive training in safety procedures, emergency protocols, and first aid.

He also said that in an in-flight emergency, passengers normally depend on the trained crew for immediate assistance.

Although having a doctor on the plane may be useful, he explained that cabin staff are ready to provide emergency aid and can, in fact, save lives.

Attention was once again drawn to Machchhar's comments after it was reported that he had been stabbed by his co-pilot while on the flight.

Smit Machchhar Latest News: Doctor Assists Injured Machchar During In-Flight Medical Emergency

Smit Machchhar Saves Flydubai Passengers: A doctor on board promptly provided medical assistance and kept him stable until the plane landed and he was taken to hospital.

The Israeli dentist, Dr Shota Musayev, is said to have gone to the cockpit after hearing screams on flydubai flight FZ1073.

When he got there, he found Machchhar on the floor, seriously injured and bleeding heavily.

According to Israeli sources, Musayev said that Machchhar was in a critical condition with severe bleeding, particularly from his head.

Musayev said that he was the only doctor on the aircraft and managed to stop the bleeding and keep Machchhar's blood pressure stable.

Looking back, Musayev described the situation as extremely difficult. Thanks to the courage of some of the passengers and the crew, they avoided what he thought could have been a major disaster. After that, his only wish was to go home and hug his children.
