Trump Says US May Seize Kharg Island to Control Iran Oil conflict
Iran War News: United States President Donald Trump has expressed his interest in acquiring oil in Iran and also hinted upon seizure of the country's main export hub at Kharg Island, as many added American soldiers are deployed to the Middle East amid constant strikes on Iran from the United States and Israel.
According to recent reports, Kharg Island has also been pointed as a strategic U.S. military option in the conflict.
US Iran News: Trump Expresses His Desire To Acquire Oil in Iran
Iran Oil News: Briefing the media during an interview on Sunday, Trump said ’To be honest with you, my favourite thing is to take the oil in Iran but some stupid people back in the US say: why are you doing that?’ But they’re stupid people.
Such a move would definitely mean acquisition of Kharg Island, a key centre of maximum inflow of Iran’s oil exports.
This step of Trump would further trigger the conflict and disturb the global energy markets.
On Monday Brent crude rose up to $116 a barrel in Asian trading, alleviating to more than 50% over the last month as tensions in the Middle East have increased.
According to Trump, the Pentagon is considering several military plans. Stating further, he said, ‘’Maybe we take Kharg Island oil hub, maybe we don’t. We have a lot of options.’’ It would also mean to be there in Kharg Island for a while.’’
Kharg Island Attack: Trump Eyes Quick, Easy Kharg Island Takeover
More updates on Kharg Island News: On being questioned about Iran’s defenses on the Island, Trump does not believe in having such a defence, and it can be acquired sooner without hardened efforts.
According to a report, the Pentagon has already sent orders to position 10,000 soldiers trained to capture land and hold operations.
Nearly 3,500 personnel, which included 2,200 Marines, reached the region on Friday. Another 2,200 Marines are also underway.
Thousands more troops from the 82nd Airborne Division are also being directed for deployment, as Washington prepares for a bigger move.
US Iran Oil Conflict: Analysts Flag High Risk in Kharg Island Attack
As far as military analysts' perspective, they have given strict warning that any assault on Kharg Island would result in serious repercussions, raising the possibility of US casualties and will lead to prolonged conflict, as well as posing threat to one of the world’s most key oil arteries.
Already, the war has spread beyond Iran and Israel. The recent example is the Friday strike on a U.S. air base in Saudi Arabia in which 12 American soldiers were seriously injured, and caused destruction of a $270 million E-3 Sentry surveillance aircraft.
A ballistic missile towards Israel is also reported to have been launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. This has sparked fears of escalated conflict and deep concerns over the global energy crisis.
However, despite military threats, Donald Trump stated that indirect talks with Tehran via Pakistani mediators are progressing.
Trump further pointed out that he has given Iran an ultimatum of April 6 to consider his deal on a serious note, or else be ready to face attacks on its energy infrastructure by the U.S forces.
Regarding the ceasefire and reopening of Strait of Hormuz, Trump said “We’ve got about 3,000 targets left, we’ve bombed 13,000 targets — and another couple of thousand targets to go.” Adding further, he said “A deal could be made fairly quickly.”
Iran Clears Pakistani Oil Tankers in Goodwill Move, Claims Trump
He also made claims on Iran permitting more Pakistan-flagged oil tankers safe passage via the Strait, showing a positive step during talks.
“They gave us 10,” he said. “Now they’re giving 20 and the 20 have already started and they’re going right up the middle of the Strait.”
He also added that Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has personally cleared the plan, saying: ‘’He is the one who allowed the ships’’
Making further arguments, Trump mentioned regime change in Iran after the demise of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and many senior officials during the opening phase of joint military attack of America - Israel on Iran.
New Iranian Regime is Different and Professional: Trump
Pointing to the new Iranian regime, he said that it is truly professional and different. Trump once again made claims about Tehran’s new top authority and son of late supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei’s death or injury.
His words were’’the son is either dead or in extremely bad shape,’’. We’ve not heard from him at all. He’s gone.’’
