Twisha Sharma Death Case: Deceased Husband Surrenders After Missing for 10 Days

After being missing for 10 days, Twisha Sharma’s husband Samarth Singh surrendered at the Jabalpur District Court.

Earlier, his lawyer told the Madhya Pradesh High Court that Samarth was ready to surrender to the police right away.

The High Court allowed Samarth Singh to surrender at either the trial court or Katara Police Station in Bhopal and postponed the case for another hearing on Monday. "He will surrender immediately.

He has to prepare for his wife’s last rites,” the lawyer said. The court was also told that the anticipatory bail plea would be withdrawn.

Dowry Death Case: Twisha’s Family Accuses Her In-Laws of Dowry Harassment and Abetment to Suicide

Twisha Sharma Latest Update: Post-Mortem Report Confirms Twisha Died by Suicide, Family Alleges Foul Play

The post-mortem report stated that Twisha died by suicide, but her family rejected this and alleged foul play. The court has allowed a second autopsy.

The court approved a second autopsy of Twisha's body after her father's lawyer asked the court to make the case a priority, saying, “time is ticking fast."

However, Giribala Singh’s lawyer, who represents Twisha’s mother-in-law, opposed the request for a second autopsy.

The lawyer argued that doctors at AIIMS had already performed the postmortem and questioned why another was needed.

“It is an insult to the medical fraternity. It reflects their own incompetence and shows they do not trust their own doctors,” the lawyer said in court.

‘Body Must Not Decompose ' General Tushar Mehta defended the doctors who performed the autopsy, but said the family could ask for a second opinion if they thought something was missing.

“The impartiality of the doctors is exemplary. But if the victim’s family feels something is missing, a second opinion can be sought,” he said.

At the same time, Singh’s lawyer argued against delaying the final rites, saying the body should not be allowed to decompose. “She is the daughter-in-law of our family. It is our duty to perform her last rites,” the lawyer said.

Twisha Sharma Death Case: CBI Probe Recommended

The court noted that the body is being kept at minus 4 degrees Celsius in the AIIMS Bhopal mortuary, but longer preservation would require minus 80 degrees Celsius, which is not available in the city.

This came just hours after the Madhya Pradesh government suggested that the Central Bureau of Investigation take over the case and agreed to transfer the investigation to the central agency.

"The authorisation explicitly covers the investigation of the primary offence, any abetment to the crime, and any related criminal conspiracy," the official notification from the Home Department of the Mohan Yadav government stated.

The notification, signed by Home Department Secretary Krishnaveni Deshavatu, has been sent to top central and state authorities to begin the immediate transfer of the case files.
