Rohit Sharma Padma Shri: Droupadi Murmu Honours Cricket Star in Delhi
Rohit Sharma Padma Shri: Rohit Sharma, who captained India to a T20 World Cup victory, received the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian honor, from President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday, June 23.
He was among 65 people honored at the second Civil Investiture Ceremony. Hockey player Savita Punia also received the Padma Shri, while tennis legend Vijay Amritraj was awarded the Padma Bhushan.

Rohit missed the first ceremony in May due to work and personal reasons, but he attended the event in New Delhi on Tuesday with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh.
President Murmu honours Rohit Sharma: Ritika watched proudly as Rohit received the award from President Murmu.
Before accepting the award, Rohit bowed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He wore a black suit and smiled during the ceremony.

Rohit Sharma Padma Shri: This year, Rohit Sharma shared the spotlight with women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur Bhullar, who also received the Padma Shri for her leadership and international achievements.
Harmanpreet, who led India to an ODI World Cup win last year, received her award at the first Civil Investiture Ceremony in May.

Rashtrapati Bhavan Ceremony: Rohit Sharma now joins around 40 Indian cricketers who have received the Padma Shri, following legends such as Vijay Hazare, Nawab Pataudi, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.
Notable recipients at the ceremony were film star Mammootty, singer Alka Yagnik, and American oncologist Dattatreyudu Nori. Rohit Sharma’s impact as a leader in Indian cricket.

Former India captain Rohit Sharma’s leadership stood out when he led India to an unbeaten run at the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, ending an 11-year wait for a major trophy.
He continued this success by guiding the team to victory in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, helping India become a top white-ball team.
Rohit Sharma Padma Shri: Besides his leadership, the award also recognizes Rohit’s achievements as the only batsman to score three ODI double-centuries and five T20I hundreds in cricket history.
Padma Shri for Savita Punia: A Crowning Glory for India's Hockey Star

Savita Punia is among the other Padma Shri Sports Awardees 2026 today. At 35, she has been a key player for the women's national hockey team, earning 308 international caps and helping India finish fourth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
As captain, she led the team to bronze medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2022 FIH Nations Cup, and guided them to Women's Asian Champions Trophy wins in 2023 and 2024.
Punia, who was named FIH Women's Goalkeeper of the Year for three years in a row, sees this award as recognition for her long career and her impact on Indian sports.
Civil Investiture Ceremony 2026: Tennis Legend Vijay Amritraj Becomes Recipient of Padma Bhushan

Tennis legend Vijay Amritraj received the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award, at the second investiture ceremony.
Amritraj helped raise the profile of Indian tennis, reaching a career-high singles ranking of No. 16 in 1980 and leading India to the Davis Cup finals in 1974 and 1987.
He won 15 ATP Tour titles and reached the quarter-finals at both Wimbledon and the US Open.
After retiring, he continued to contribute through charity work, sports commentary, and as a UN Messenger of Peace.
He received the Padma Shri in 1983, and this new honour highlights a legacy that continues to inspire Indian athletes.
