Trump Tariff Supreme Court Update: India Tariffs Cut to 10% for 150 Days
On Friday, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing a 10% global tariff on imports from all nations, advancing his trade agenda within hours of the Supreme Court's dismissal of his earlier sweeping import duties.
The new tariffs will be applied on February 24, 2026, at 10:31 AM.

The words of the US President were ‘’It is my Great Honor to have just signed, from the Oval Office, a Global 10% Tariff on all countries.’’
While writing on Truth Social, he added that the measure will take effect immediately.
Tariff Barriers: Trump Seeks Equal Trade Commitment
Based on White House fact sheet, the United States will value its trade agreements and hopes that other nations will follow suit.
Earlier in the day, Trump stated that an order was issued under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, letting temporary tariffs of up to 15% for 150 days.
During that period, it will become necessary for us to conduct investigations to apply fair tariffs on other nations.
Addressing reporters, the US President further clarified that rates will rise later. When asked whether the duties would last beyond 150 days, he said the administration had several legal options to impose stronger measures.
Trump Tariff Supreme Court: Slams the Brakes on the US President’s Solo Tariff Spree
The Supreme Court’s 6-3 ruling came as a stinging 6-3 blow to Trump’s solo tariff spree, invalidating his use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to apply tariffs without Congressional permission.
In response, the US President strongly criticised the decision, calling it disappointing. He argued that it was limited to only one executive tool, not his overall power to impose tariffs.
Citing Justice Brett Kavanaugh's disapproval, Trump said it showed that presidents still have strong authority over trade. He also indicated that tariffs will be reimposed with alternative legal provisions.
Warns of New Trade Probes, Signals Higher Tariffs Ahead
Donald Trump has also declared the launch of many Section 301 probes into illegal trade practices.
This paves the way for Section 232 national security investigations, which will trigger higher tariffs on certain countries and industries.
According to US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, the details of the new Section 301 cases will be out soon, terming them as ‘Legally durable’.
The White House fact sheet exempts some products from the tariffs. It will include items from the sectors such as critical minerals, currency metals, energy, aerospace, bullion, pharmaceuticals, and autos.
Donald Trump Again Announces Suspension of Duty-Free Treatment
In a separate order, Donald Trump again announced the suspension of duty-free treatment for low-value shipments, including those sent via international mail.
According to the court decision, the US must return the $175 billion in tariff funds, to which Trump said this process will not be resolved in a short time, and will likely drag on in courts for years.
Speaking in Dallas, Scott Bessent, the United States Secretary of the Treasury, said there was no clarity from the court on refunds and warned that disputes could last for weeks, months, or even years.
He also added that new trade measures under Sections 122, 232, and 301 must offset losses, with 2026 tariff revenue nearly unaltered.
Despite the setback, Donald Trump remains adamant that tariffs are an important part of his trade strategy.
