White House Quickly Updates India–US Trade Deal Fact Sheet

The White House recently revised its fact sheet on the India-US trade framework.

It removes a claim that New Delhi reduced tariffs on ‘certain pulses’, ends the digital services tax, and softens its earlier statement committing to buying $500 worth of American products.

According to a White House news source, these corrections followed New Delhi's pointing out accidental inclusions of certain words and points on which neither side agreed.

India-US Trade Tariffs: Changes That Have Been Made

The updated fact sheet was released after the original version went viral on Monday. It removed the reference to certain pulses from the list of farm products on which India agreed to reduce import tariffs.

Previously, there was a clear listing of pulses, including products containing tree nuts, spirits, soybean oil, and wine.

Pulses are a main issue in India, since the country is the world’s largest producer and consumer of crops such as dry beans, lentils, and chickpeas.

This suggests that New Delhi raised objections to the earlier wording and sought its revision.

White House Drops Claim on India’s Digital Tax Removal

Following the latest developments on the India-US trade deal, the White House has also dropped its claim that India has removed its digital services taxes.

According to the revised document, India has committed only to negotiating rules for digital trading.

It is worth noting that India had already removed the 6% digital advertising tax from April 1, 2025, through the Finance Bill 2025, well before the trade framework was made public.

Agricultural Trade Between India and the US

In another change, the fact sheet now states India’s intention to purchase more American products, rather than committing to do so. This language resonates with the joint statement, signed by both countries on February 7.

The word ‘Agricultural’ was also dropped from the product purchase list. The White House gave no immediate response to the revisions.
