INDIA Bloc Third Day Protest: 5,000 Police Deployed as Security Tightens in Central Delhi

Security has increased at Sansad Marg, Ashoka Road, Janpath Road, and other areas in central Delhi as the Opposition's INDIA alliance prepares for its third day of protests on Thursday against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Delhi Police have deployed around 5,000 officers and set up roadblocks. The government has also approved sending more central paramilitary forces to the city.

Security at the Le Meridien roundabout has been increased after protesters gathered there on Wednesday. Police reviewed footage from 150 body cameras used during the protest and found that some officers had been targeted. Police had little time to prepare for the protest since it was mostly spontaneous. Security has now been tightened in case more people gather on Thursday.

Security Tightened in Delhi: According to media reports, the Union Home Ministry approved sending 110 companies of central paramilitary forces to Delhi from October 8 to 12, and 111 companies have already arrived. The Central Reserve Police Force will send the most, with 85 companies. It will also send seven companies from its Rapid Action Force, which is an anti-riot unit.

Regarding the INDIA bloc protest against Gyanesh Kumar, the police will send seven companies, Sashastra Seema Bal will send ten, and the Central Industrial Security Force will send one starting Thursday. Each paramilitary company is supposed to have 120 to 130 personnel, but usually about 75 to 80 are deployed at Janpath and Ashoka Road, leading to a standoff.
